Santa was asking if there were any new cds I wanted this year, and then these were announced:

http://www.amazon.com/Beatles-Tony-Sher ... 50&sr=1-19

I'm on the edge, what do you think?

Cheers,
John.E

No offence, but The Beatles and Kiss are pretty much the same band, repackaging the same rubbish over and over.

Hey John, Sounds pretty cool... I wish we could hear a sample of some of the tunes.
Maybe it should be an early Christmas, so you can report back 8)

It's not new. They released most those tracks on vinyl back in the '70s.

On the songs with Tony Sheridan, they were just the house backing band. Those songs don't sound "Beatle-ish" at all. And they make it clear why Tony Sheridan is a forgotten minor "star".

The Beatle tracks are pretty forgettable too. "Ain't She Sweet" is the old vaudeville tune. "Cry For a Shadow" is only notable for being the first instrumental George Harrison wrote.

If you're a hardcore Beatle fan who wants to hear their embryonic style you'll listen to it a couple of times out of scholarly curiousity. But if you're hoping for undiscovered gems that you'll actually enjoy listening to, it'll be a huge disappointment.

I certainly wouldn't equate The Beatles in the same pile as Kiss.
Some of the Beatles music may not have stood the test of time but they are instrumental in getting the ball rolling, wether you like their contributions or not, you have to acknowledge their influence on countless bands afterwards.
That they were very much rehearsed and marketed, there is no doubt but a lot of the music is still relavent....

If I recall, Michael Jackson owned the rights to all the Beatles music ( unfortunately ) so if any one is the blame for repackaging what more than likely George, John would consider unfit than blame the MJ estate.....

He left it to Paul in his will, blame him

I'd say Hendrix had much more influence on modern rock, based on his aggressive guitar style, crazy solos, and all around flamboyant performances.

I just don't understand the influence from The Beatles to Hendrix. How can they be terrible, but Hendrix be incredible?

In my opinion, everything was rock n roll until Hendrix came along, then ROCK was born. I mean if you listen it sound like everyone was pushing it, but they were all hitting smack into a wall until Hendrix came and completly blew up and tore down that wall

theres a reason that hendix played sgt.peppers.
Paul and George were in the audience along with Epstein, Clapton, and Jeff Beck if i remember correctly (from a source) and were blown away, especially since it literally came out only like two days a head

Allegedly, the 45rpm single of "My Bonnie" is worth megabucks. :?:
