You should get the one I got. Crate GLX65. It's got crazy versatility and can even be hooked up as a head.

I recommend the Marshall Haze at 40W or for that matter any of their tube combos 40W and over will do good gigging also the Fender Twin is an excellent choice as it stays clean at very high volumes. For pedals I find Danelectro Cool Cat Tremolo,Chorus,Vibe and Transparent Overdrive extremely good pedals that are cheap yet sound great and are bullet proof. For a distortion I recommend the Electro Harmonix Big Muff Pi,I have used one for 40 years-have used others but keep going back to the Big Muff. The Marshall Guv'nor is also an excellent overdrive/boost pedal ,check out music gear ads for an older British made metal case model-they were the best but the new ones are great too.

Fender Super Reverb -- either a re-issue or the "real McCoy".

+1 Can't go wrong with a Super Reverb!

What is your budget?

I agree about the Super Reverb...great, great amplifier. Don't overlook the silverface models of those amps.

The Egnator Rebel 30 is a killer amp, too.

Effects--the mainstay overdrive for many blues players (myself included) is an Ibanez TubeScreamer. There are several different incarnations, so try a few different ones. My personal favs are the TS-9 and the SoundTank TS-5, but the 5's were plastic-bodied and a little unreliable.

The MXR Phase 90 is a killer little stompbox, too, if you want some modulation.

You gotta have a wah. I have a regular ol' Crybaby that I modified, but there's a hundred different makes and models, so try 'em all until one floats your boat.

The list is endless, but if you told us what kind of artists you are emulating or covering, and what type of blues/rock you'll be playing, that would be helpful...are you talking EC or SRV or DB II or Rory or Johnny Winter or who?

Welcome to the Forum, by the way. I'm Screamin' Armadillo, and I'm a guitarholic.

Afternoon Mr SA, Im intruiged, how did you modify your crybaby? Havent come across any wah pedal mods before.

Back to the post, i know its not the most highly regarded brand or model, and its certainly a budget option. But i recently got a Laney VC30 1x12" and for a blues amp its an incredible valve combo. Picked it up for £200 second hand. If youre on a budget i would advise trying one of these out, you might be smitten like me. Though if you have more of a budget, as has been mentioned already you cant go wrong with a super reverb.

Loosen the mechanism that runs the pot up and down (the teeth that mesh with the gear on the potentiometer), and adjust where the sweep starts and stops; it can massively change your wah sound. It takes a couple of adjustments to make it sound like what you want; mine is now a bit deeper in tone than the average Crybaby.

I also temporarily installed a Fasal inductor (supposedly a Holy Grail type of thing in relation to wah pedals), but I didn't really like the sound as much as the stock inductor, so I went back to stock...

I also modified the looks of mine by carving my initials and a star into the rubber where my foot sits; purely an aesthetic thing, but it's cool nonetheless... 8)

The Fender Twin is a great choice, a Fender Super Reverb is great as well. I thought for a moment about some of the others mentioned but in a side to side test Fender wins. Pedals, try'em, Cry Baby is a good wah, the TS-9 is a good pedal.
