Pick size, shape, and thickness definitely do matter despite contrary opinion. Why? Because each type of pick is as different as the guitar make and the guitarist itself. Personally, I agree with a few of the musicians here: Jazz III s have always been my choice for precision and tone especially when on electric. Big, fat, bulky picks aren't meant for precision, they're meant for the edgier, heavier, sound a metal/grunge type of sound would ask for but in my case, I play blues/rock/alt. which calls for a lot of precision picking (not to say metal/grunge doesn't) but if you haven't tried the Jazz III s yet and you <3 your 5 minute guitar solos, go pick up the red Jazz IIIs. Color-wise I prefer black but I heard from some players the Red Jazz IIIs are less slippery. I often doubt the accuracy of their statement but it may just be superstition.

we have talked about woods. strings, tone (where does it come from), so i am asking every one do you think picks make a difference? I do i use the little dunlop stubby's 2.0 mm the purple ones i notice a difference in the thickiness and they seem to produce less picknoise. imo lets discuss

Correct. It makes a big difference. Even if you compare the Dunlop pick
with same thickness but different material it is different. The purple Big Stubby are made from nylon and provides better attack than the former grey Big Stubby. You should consider a 3mm Big Stubby upgrade.

I play for a band, during the songs I switch between lead and rythom. I have noticed that the thicker picks are better for lead and the thinner for rythom.

I think picks can make a difference. It seems to me that a thin premium celluloid pick has a more sparkling sound than a medium. For my ears the thicker the pick, the warmer the tone, but for me the heavier picks are too warm.
