I find that they make a difference in the tone. I am currently using the Gator 1.14 mm picks.

It will change the tone a little. I use those purple Dunlops 1.14. I can't see how people use those thin ones.

Jazz III is the best for me. But there is not much difference. Just preference.

I love the jazz III picks only picks i ever liked

When i went to college i was using the dunlop stubbys like i am now, but i ahd an instructor that was a tone monster and he would take the jazz III and file the edge down and they sounded amazing, so for along time i uesed them and still do, but in a moment of desperation my local store was out so i bought some stubbys again.... so i am back and forth

They do make a difference in tone. Just strum a chord with your fingertips and then do the same thing with your fingernails. Huge difference. Depending on the guitar and what I'm looking for I'll play anything from lights to heavies. (Fender 351 premium celluloid). I like the mediums for most, but the SG definitely sounds better with heavies.

I usually use a heavy gauge (351 or 451 style), but sometimes one of these Sharkskins -

I like to use Fender Thins when playing rythm and I like to use Mediums when I am playing lead. I like the way chords sound with nice thin pick.

Usually a generic Fender Heavy in just about any colour for guitar; bass and nylon are played with fingers.

'Do have a Min'd Pick (made of polished stone, rarely used) from the 70s and a real tortise shell (70s again) for smooth jazz and a Jellyfish (which has hardly ever been used)...but man, you'd best have a useful pickguard if you have a Jellyfish. Its sting comes from stainless steel wires.

heck yeah with basses. fingering makes it more, booom, bass like but its soft. with picks its loud but more of a clangy sound. thicker pick, louder noise.
