a couple of PBR's and a dingy, lowlit showroom that smells like an ashtray should do the trick. Preferably in a place that just screams old country blues... up near Table Rock or something...

Sometimes its all about the three L's: Location, Location, Location! 8) anyways... happy tone-searching, and I'm sure you'll find the sound you're looking for

Niki is absolutely right. It's hard to get good quack if you use a scooped mid EQ. You need to push your mids.

somebizarredude is also right. Pluck the strings a little harder. In fact, try playing with your fingers like Robert Cray and Mark Knopfler instead of using a flat pick. They both get great quack.

You can also try lowering the height of your pickups.

Seymour Duncan makes a set of Strat humbuckers called Duck-Buckers. They are very quacky if you want humbuckers but they are also a little too bright for most people so you may need to have a small cap included in your wiring to go that route.

I think it has alot to do with the pickups. I get really strong, defined "quak" with Texas Special Pickups.

What do you think?
Fast forward to 5:03 of video.

Are we talking about a faulty wiring job on the middle position p/up? Is it out of phase with the other 2?

You should be getting some quack, regardless of the EQ..

in my opinion, just my opinion here. its not the strings they are plenty heavy. I cant really see your pick attack but it sounds like you need to attack the strings more briskly and with more force. think dog yelp. it also helps to use a thick pick. just swipe quick and hard. also adjust the attack angle a little to find your sweet spot.

I get better quack, spank and jangle with lighter strings. I get better chime and bell-like tones with heavier strings. I usually use 10's so I have a kind of compromise between light and heavy. For pure quack I'd switch to 9's.

I have the opposite effect with lighter strings. they don't pop as much to me and lose some output so its not as ducky if that makes sense  but i haven't used anything lighter than 11's in years. worth a shot though

In my experience, it's the pickups.

"Quack" is a term that I never heard until I started reading it on the net...we always called it "out of phase",but that's not totally correct....doesn't sound like a quack at all to me.

Play a tele for a quack sound. Teles have a sweet quacky/twangy thing going on with them

Quack is related to the out of phase sounds in positions 2 and 4 on a 5 way switch.
Therefore ...
Strats have quack.
Teles have spank.

I find playing without a pick and really digging in gets me that sound...also sounds better through a tube amp. Also turn your tone controls to 10 or if you have a delta no load engage it. HTH.
