I have Fender American Standard Stratocastor. ( 2009 ) My tremolo assembly is flush to the body, not a floater. When I play the guitar ( chords or lead ), the 1st( e ) and 2nd( b ) strings keep going sharp ( sometimes the others, too ). It did the same thing when the tremolo was a floater, that's why I adjusted it to flush, to try and eliminate this problem. I string the guitar correctly, ( been playin' since '66 ) pull on the strings to get the slack out, I have detected no cracks or breaks on the neck, the nut is fine, and it's been set up by a very competent guitar tech, who now is 3000 miles away from me and the techs I'm near are clueless. It's drivin' me up the frickin' wall !! C'mon, boys, I know one of you Fender Brothers can help me out. Please !!

Have you lubed all the contact points on the guitar where the strings could hang up? The nut, bridge and string trees are places that the strings can bind on if not lubed properly. If that's the culprit you could try some Big Bends Nut Sauce or some other similar product or use graphite-even a lead pencil would do the trick here.I've solved the binding problem by doing this many times.I hope it works for you,if not let us know and we'll brainstorm as to what may be causing it.

How often do you play your guitar? Has it ever had a fret level since you got it? The reason I ask is that it can cause notes to sound sharp. It's aggravating too, because the string will be in tune open but go sharp when fretted.

Is the intonation set properly? How old are the strings? Can you see any anomalies in the saddles?

You might examine the pivot posts of your bridge for abnormal or excessive wear that's allowing them to squirm around in the sockets.

Also -- if your tuners use a threaded bushing, make sure that they're snug to the tuner cases.
