Horseshit smells better.

I'm a smoker. I would never smoke in somebody's car or domicile without asking for permission and I readily comply if they tell me not to. (I will whine and beg for frequent stops/breaks so I can go out and smoke, though.)

I lounge for a bit after a meal regardless of whether I smoke or not. It's better for the digestion. People who are in a rush to leave the table give me cramps.

Woman who smoke turn me on. "Ladylike" women turn me off. My mouth tastes like an ashtray so I guess that's a good thing. No "ladylike" woman would be interested in me, no smoking woman would mind.

Yes, I am disgusting. In many ways and on many levels. Smoking is only the tip of the iceberg.

Mom died of lung cancer at 78. Dad died of heart failure at 85. Both had been chainsmoking since they were teens. They both lived full active lives up until about a year before they died, then they declined rapidly and went peacefully in their own bed. I've abused my body in many ways that they didn't and I think my COPD or my heart will probably kill me earlier. Big whoop -- I done turned 21, I don't mind dyin'. I'll be less of a burden on the tottering Social Security system.

Have a nice day. (Smoke 'em if you got 'em, soldier.)

edited to add: I hope your father gets better or can at least be made comfortable. It's stressful seeing your parents go through illnesses, especially if it's before their time or due to something that could have been avoided. (I moved home to help take care of Mom, and later moved home again to take care of Dad -- I was with Mom when she died and I was the one who found my Dad's body, so I know it's hard.) You really do have my sympathy and I'd never intentionally be obnoxious and expose you to smoke if I knew that it bothered you. Rude smokers bother me as much as rude anti-smokers do.

(I presume you're upset and not naturally rude. But dude, you called me disgusting.)

You have opened the door for another Rant Session. But I'm not going to, I promise.
I To HATE All kinds of tobacco. It killed My Mom, and it damn near killed me. Now I have COPD, and I'm on Home Oxygen 24/7. When I go out I Carry a portable tank, and wear nose gear. It's a dead giveaway, everyone notices and check's you out. I also take 3 separate inhalers Each designed to keep your lings open so you get the maximum benefit from each breath. A normal person absorbs about 99% of the oxygen you breath. Evan with the assisted breathing, I only get about 96%. I'ts enough but I still get out of breath easily and am limited to light activity. When you see that (NO SMOKING) think about what I just told you.

Smoking is completely indefensible. And I am smoker, contemplating my final few packs before I quit. Hope I haven't left it too late.

Everything people say to the detriment of smoking is largely true.

but..

Think about how much tax is payed on a pack, and think about how your Govt is going to make up the shortfall if everybody quits tomorrow..

I quit years ago and it stinks so bad to me...when I play in bars and come home in the early hours of the morning,I have to strip out in the laundry room and hop in the shower to get it off of me,and then the guitars and amps and all other gear reeks of smoke....but I deal with it because I want to play live music.

where I live you can't smoke in bars, places that serve food or just about any public place except out in the street or on a patio. It is a bad habit. You may hate cigarettes and the way they smell and know it's bad for you. Does that mean that you hate the person that smokes? They might be very good upright people. They may just have a hard time quitting. They may have given up booze and drugs. They may go to church. They may pray that they can quit. I hope you don't judge a person who smokes as a bad person just because they have a bad habit. Do you think Clapton was a bad person? He smoked and drank and was addicted to smack. Same thing with alot of people. I'm just writing this to say- maybe it may be better to feel for the person who is having a hard time getting off any substance rather than saying they stink or refer to them in a personal vindictive way.

As of tomorrow I'll be 3 months smoke free,I can't say that I feel any better, the only difference is that my clothes and breath don't stink anymore.Tobacco is a horrible substance and nicotine is one of the most highly addictive substances on the planet. Back in the 60s the tobacco companies knew full well that tobacco was addictive and played this fact to its advantage by offering free packs to people who showed their empty packs hoping to get as many young people as possible on the smokers bandwagon.

Whereas the tobacco companies pushed their product knowing all the time just how harmful it was, they should be legislated to pay for smoking cessation programs for all those who want to quit.If it takes a person multiple tries to stop they should be made to pay until they quit successfully. The companies created the problem and milked billions from it all the while causing a pandemic of lung cancer and other smoke related maladies. Therefore they should be made to pay for the damage that they caused.

I honestly can't say that I feel any better,as a matter of fact for the first few weeks I was always tired and couldn't get enough sleep.Maybe things will change down the road but my sinuses-that were always blocked and that I attributed to smoking-are still plaguing me.I'm glad that you're feeling better from quitting.I know though that in the long run that quitting was the most sensible and healthy thing I could do.

It's your autonomic nervous system that reacts. It's going to cool down very soon. There you see how strong this drug is. I stopped 12 years ago, it's been of the best decisions in my life.

Cheers

David

I've thought of the taxation of tobacco too. I've also considered the possibility of less club attendence due to a ban on bar smoking. If smoking remains legal, the one place you should be allowed to light up in is a dang bar IMO.

Here in Iowa, smoking in all public places (except casinos) was banned 2-3 years ago. There was a lot of ranting from bar owners, but in the end it had no effect on bar attendance. The only weird thing about it is when you are in the middle of a song and half the bar gets up and leaves - you're thinking, what the hell? Then in the middle of the next song they all came waltzing back in - they went out to smoke!

No smoking in bars gave me great relief as a live performer!

Here you aren't allowed to smoke in anyone's place of work, including company cars. There's also talk of banning smoking in cars with children.
I don't intend to start smoking, purely because it seems like a waste of money. I do quite like the smell though.
