just get a good carbon steel strait razor. if you maintain it properly you get an awesome shave. I will never use anything else. I have had the same razor for 12 years. it does however take a bit of time to get proficient with one..... some blood will be involved
also it is quite interesting when your date stays the night and walks in on you shaving with one  at least my wife's first reaction was

I haven't been clean shaven in 40 years, full beard for 25, goatee ever since. I'll not shave it off to start over. I had my first prostate biopsy last January and it was nasty, but the results were negative.

Get it checked, boys!

I grue My Stash in1965 and it's been hanging off my lip every sense. I'll not be shaving it off any time soon. I was diagnosed with prostate Cancer 4 1/2 years ago. I went through hormone treatments that eliminate all the testosterone in your body, you can guess what that dose to you. Can you say total impotence? that goes on once every 3 months for 3 years immediately after diagnoses they get you ready for the radiation. After haveing implants inserted through my rectum into my prostate, I began with a series of 45 radiation treatments one every day for 45 days. The radiation is not painful until the areas being treated begin to burn then it gets quite uncomfortable. After about the first 5 treatments my body began to loose all its strength. I felt like someone had kicked my A$#% real good. That goes on for the entire time of the treatment. Afterword my strength slowly began to come back. In My case I have still not regained all my vim and vigor. The cancer seems to have gone away, but I'm still getting checked every 6 months with PSA tests and the old finger wave. I don't recommend the way I've spent the last 4 1/2 years to anyone. I'm one of the lucky ones. 8)

Wow, Danny what a story. Glad you are winning the fight.

I am one of those that will not shave off my goatee for any reason. Once in awhile I will let the rest of the beard grow in but that is usually pretty short lived.

It seems to me that most men are very unlikely to change their style of facial hair. In college I quit a job because they wanted me to shave. Granted it was a low-wage food service job, but the manager was pretty surprised when I immediately gave my 2 weeks. She actually tried to talk me in to staying because I was one of the few employees who actually cleaned things up (there is no reason for a kitchen to be dirty and lots of them for it to be clean).

She didn't get it until I asked her if she would cut her hair to keep her job. Even though she said "absolutely not", she still thought I was overreacting. I kept the goatee and never missed that job.

Hang in there Danny Duke, glad to hear you made it through the worst part and moving on with some positive thoughts.

My father in law was diagnosed and went through treatment last winter for prostate cancer. On top of his Parkinson's and the early onset of dementia it was a tough time, hard to really tell how he's feeling, but at least the prostate cancer seems to be gone for now.

As for the shaving, I get tease quite a bit because I refuse to get a "respectable" haircut but I haven't shaved since Easter, 2010, so can't do much there. :D

----Danny,

Thanks for sharing, Danny, and keep fighting. I'm fighting a stage III colon cancer diagnosis from '08 and once you're diagnosed, you become a fighter for life!

Guys do yourself a favor and go and have a colonoscopy done. I went over a month ago for the 1st time and I don't regret it. The doctor said I was safe and that I didn't have to worry about anything for at least 5 years.
