Probably, but was Band of Gypsies before or after Valleys of Neptune? When Jimi was in Band of Gypsies, was he using Fuzz Faces?

He was using silicon Fuzz Faces by then, rather than the germanium ones on most of the earlier material.

A good Fuzz Face is a thing of beauty, the way it responds to every little change in picking dynamic or twist of the controls is nearly magical. Everything from crisp gentle overdrive to full on howling chaos is but a twist of a volume pot away.

Of course, most weren't that great and sounded like a bee breaking wind in a jar.

Ended up making my own modded germanium FF in the end, took a while to get it right, but it's an absolutely invaluable part of my rig these days.

What ever fuzz you choose, try this as well:

-Put an overdrive pedal BEFORE your fuzz, and the fuzz will get smoother and "bigger."

-Put a fuzz pedal BEFORE your overdrive and it will get "angrier" and more prone to feedback...

Don't ask me how I know.

Anything and everything you ever wanted to know about the Big Muff pi's over the ages
http://www.kitrae.net/music/music_big_muff.html

Including soundclips of the various units
http://www.kitrae.net/music/Music_mp3_B ... Sound.html

Also have a look at the Dallas-Arbiter(Dunlop) Fuzz Face, and Pro Co Ratt units

I recently bought a Big Muff pi, and returned it the next day ordering a Bass Big Muff pi instead.
Still waiting for it to come in.

Difference is the Bass Big Muff pi has the same circuity and sound as the old Russian made Sovtec Big Muff pi of times past.
And it handles the frequencies of both a guitar and a bass well, which suits me as I attempt to play both.

The bass muff is the best sounding of all the current muffs on guitar as far as I'm concerned - much thicker and meatier than the others. Good choice!

I have one down at the studio, don't use it that much, but sometimes only a big fat muff will do! Had to pull it apart and fix it when almost new though, as they had apparently seen fit to not actually put any solder on the power connectors.
