As the tittle says, I'm interested into what is the best low price (meaning below, say 200€) beginner bass guitar (preferably a bit smaller and lighter bass, but still with the best possible sound).
I'm not interested into basses for children, but a bit smaller and lighter than most of the basses is a + as the bass is for a female who had no experience playing bass yet, but is eager to learn.

So to sum up: best possible sound, a bit lighter and smaller than usual, but not really bass for children, and under 200€ (300$).

Which bass would you advise and why?

Thanks, help appreciated :)

I'm very partial to short scale /30" basses, lighter, more comfortable for "vertically challenged" players such as myself.

Here is a photo of my SX "Vintage Series" short scale bass, available from www.rondomusic.com for around $120 US. This is a very reliable bass that I gig with and have lots of fun with. I'd highly recommend it based on what you've asked for. The new ones have a fugly headstock design called "Ursa" but assuming they're still built with the same quality controls should be just as reliable. Rondo even sells the short scale case for it for $50.

Now that's what I have, but the new Squier Mustang or Jaguar short scales look really nice too, for just a little more money. If I didn't have this SX and two Musicmasters already I'd be scoping one of those out.

Good luck and post photos of whatever you end up with.

Go with a Squier Standard P Bass. You won't regret it.

Or a J bass.

Just think of how awesome a guitar player you could have been by now if you had only spent the last 10 years practicing instead of obsessing over pickups and roasted maple necks.

Get a used Ibanez Gio. There's a bunch of 'em out there. You will have to get a better bass later on.

+1
For the money, I think those Ibanez Soundgear Basses are excellent and suitable for any style...Two different bassists in my band have agreed.

The Squire by Fender Classic Vibe's are decent, and not overly expensive.

She could also check out a used Mustang Bass,it has a short scale and slim neck that makes it perfect for smaller hands as well it has a smaller less bulky body that's sized right for a woman.BTW a few years ago my daughter was bitten by the bass bug and hinted, and hinted for a bass guitar. One day I went out and bought her a Music Master
P-Bass copy in C.A.R. and paid only $150 Cdn for it.The strings that were on it weren't all that good but when we put on a good set of D'Addario bass strings she sounded surprisingly good for such a cheap guitar. My daughter had no issues coping with the size of the guitar or the neck.BTW she's only 5'2" and doesn't have very big hands.
