Peace, bro, and it's nobody's fault, but you can't understand my sense of humor in these words. There's actually a lot of thought put into the list, and some of it is humor and also I'm interested in the responses. For example, the Pixies' drummer borders on average to terrible (when he's drunk), and including him is a joke. But also it's a serious attempt to let the kids and the old fogies play too. We have Ringo Starr and Bon-ham for the old folks, Grohl, the guy from Aerosmith, the guy from the Pixies. It's funny and all in good fun. :P Actually if folks knew more or were up to date, Pat Carney would get a more serious consideration for a vote or 2.

Yeah I spelled grammar wrong.

WAT

And as far as new drummers, some of these garage guys are f***ing great. Really simple, but really unique style. Colin Sneed (Bass Drum Of Death), dude from TIGER BEAMS, and the dude from The Upskirts (him especially.... some of the stuff he does sounds like he has 8 arms) are some of my favorites.

Of those listen; Bonham.
In my opinion its between Keith Moon, Stewart Copeland and Walfredo Reyes Jr.
Fun fact, Reyes was the gorilla in the cadbury's ad.
This is what drumming is. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=eEgF1eGrQhQ&feature=related

Stewart Copeland drumming reminds me of Jack DeJohnette, from 4:00 minutes drum solo:

Please read my post above. The poll says "better," not "best." This is actually proper grammer, though most people are not familiar with proper grammer. The poll does not claim to list "the best" -- it asks for the "better" of those listed.

Actually, "best of those listed is correct. It would be "better" if there were only two options. Just saying.

Not my fault I can't rate any of the above list as drummers. Their all pretty useless. Bashers, that's about as far as it goes.

If you want to hear great drummers, don't listen to top40 crap or the hits of yore. I find it quite funny that Ginger Baker didn't even consider Bonham a musician. But did Mitchell. Why you ask. Because of Mitchell's ability to converse as a musician and his depth of expression using the instrument.

It's what differentiates a percussionist from a time keeper

Ian Paice.. A solid rock drummer, but a guy who could make it swing as well. I'm a big Purple fan obviously, but the subtlety of his work with with Whitesnake (before they degenerated into a a big haired hard rock-cabaret act) and with Paice Ashton & Lord was just marvellous to see/hear. I saw Paicey at a drum clinic and he just about blew my mind. Played up a storm then regaled us all with a string of anecdotes and some stories about a few encounters with Keith Moon. Lovely guy and the Guvnor as far as I'm concerned.

Vinnie Calaiuta is an awesome drummer and a master of subtlety, so I'm glad nikininja name checked him. Have seen him play with Sting and then Jeff Beck, and his rythmic sense and ability to move around the beat and find intricate little fills is amazing.

Neal Peart - incredible to watch (even upside down lol) and his use of triggered sound samples in his playing - superb showman and with other musical talents to boot..

As a non drummer, it takes a lot to find something in Drumming to interest me (for what it's worth). These 3 guys do it for me all the time.
