A new Sikorsky prototype military helicopter will be able to fly twice as fast as conventional designs, manufacturers say.

CENTODIECI By Bugatti and the Raider are sumpim’ sweet, SBLS. They’re awesome to be sure 8) Thanks for the post. If I had the Bugatti I wouldn’t drive it or get it dirty. I’d just sit in it and drool. I wonder what kind of speakers it has.
I kinda look at speed the way Bugatti sees it. Back in the day getting the speed was a challenge on land, on water, and in the air. Today faster speeds engine wise is almost a given. Even electric has changed the game. Composite materials have lightened the load. The mystique has faded somewhat, although it is still cool. What really makes the difference is the design, the driver, and the environment in which the speed is attained. We could go as far as saying speed on the desert sand could be impressive to some and not others. Air racing like in Detroit is a hoot too.

Vancouver has the most exotic cars in this country and they are everywhere from parking lots to mountain highways. It always amazes me that someone who is into racing would not intentionally find themselves on an uncontrolled track with newbies or nimrods, but they’d take the same chance on public roads with a hodgepodge of crazy and careless drivers. Yeah, I know if’s human nature. I was human once or twice or . . .

Last week I found myself on a cliff side in Oliver, BC where rich boys with their rich and not so rich toys ran a beautiful twisted private track with Super cars, Minis, Asian and British classic compacts, and more with and without trainers, and with or without each other. To be part of the fun it cost $60,000+ (Cdn) a year per car, and sponsorship is also $60,000 limited per car so as not to tip the scales. Besides, that’s where handicaps come into play for racing.
Growing up I became a fan of Donald Campbell, and also a fan of nearby unlimited hydroplanes from nearby Seattle. The speed on water is unforgiving and you can’t walk the track. Here are some water babies:

Back to cars. I met with Jackie Stewart when I worked. Amazing driver and nice guy, but his thick Scottish brogue was tough for this Canuck to understand at times. Most times.
FSB

My cousin is involved in glider training and, close to the race track I mentioned above, he took me to see those prepared and towed a few days ago. Certainly not anything like the Raider, but still pretty neat. The comparison? He’s a retired Air Force Huey chopper pilot having worked alongside the Air Force Snowbirds (the first aerobatic team in the world to use music in their show) . :P
Lemme see. If I win the lottery I can drive my Bugatti to the airport, hop in my glider, and fly to the lake to race my speed boat.

Aw, fuggedabout it. Phtt!
:?

Cool video and post Gary. Thank you.
I like boats but too afraid of sharks and crocodiles to do any boating lol. That Sikorsky got my attention though. As for the Bugatti well they're only making 10 and they're all spoken for. I'll have to wait for the next version

Phew! The orders are closed.
Nice wheels, Rollie. Kawasaki’s rock. Missed my chance to buy a bike.

My high school chum bought a Ducati in ‘65, and my best friend in ‘67 had a BSA. They both wanted me to join them; but, stolen bike parts were trending in my neighbourhoods in those days, and I reluctantly didn’t bite the bullet and then got married.

My uncle had a 12 foot racer, and my room mate before I tied the knot was never home.He raced full time in Europe with a Norton and a custom Cheney frame. If I recall correctly, Cheney supplied Raleigh bicycles. His forks came from Italy and wheels from USA. He slept with his bike.

There’s a Honda behind my home, an Indian in front, and a Harley a couple of doors down. New bikes are so much more dependable and very cool.

The Flip Side:
Looks like a lot of trending with retro bikes today, including BSA which had issues back then especially with parts supplies coming from various suppliers as opposed to one, but, that also added to their charm. The conglomerate that owns Indian is reported to be BSA’s saviour. Not bad company,

That Lamb is pretty slick, Rollie. It certainly meets the bling requirements; but, I’m not so sure it’s ideal for some of the roads on this side of the pond. I know that a low slung sports car Lamb can handle the mountainous challenges, but SUVs (especially loaded) require more than driver skills and fast design. Add snow and that’ll keep the super SUV in the garage.

There is a high end SUV contender I saw plenty of in BC, however. Canada's Petro Canada gas stations are officially committed to adding charging stations and are presently in high swing across the country as I saw on our travels, with 1 hour charging limits at each stop. This is the baby that is getting attention and, while the Lamb goes 0-60 in 2.93 seconds, the Tesla does the same in 2.8 seconds. The fun factor and cost may be different, but the practicality may be too.

The Lamb has bragging rights though. :P

 I thought that would tickle your electric desires, Rollie. I saw quite a few, and the first one sat outside a bank that I had business with. Looks pretty good up close too. Seems to be beefy enough to stand up to real SUV requirements and not just the easy peasy city and slick highway travel.

The Trans Canada Highway from coast to coast runs 4860 miles / 7820 km and it looks like, along with government approval, support, and promotion , the race is on to put charging stations in place sooner than later as I mentioned. Dealing with 10 provinces is easier than with 50 states is my thinking. The charging stations I saw along the way had up to 4 outlets. Perhaps, there are more or less at each stop, or will be, but I saw two or four. Some outlets were restricted to one hour, but they were fast charging.

Here’s what’s happening here with the infrastructire on this side of the border:

https://globalnews.ca/news/4976930/petr ... tations%2F

https://www.petro-canada.ca/en/personal ... ge-network

As you can see, we’re almost there. The hidden problem is that the power players are vying for control of connections and ownership of the biggest piece of pie. How do you like the old boss? Same as the new boss or worse.

Such as this problem (wordy but the gist is there). Note that this is only one of many eye openers that doesn’t speak well for the electric car experience in a state shouting it’s benefits? . . . and they’re not alone.

https://www.eenews.net/stories/1060171565

Mrs. FSB and I are looking at supplemental piezo igniter gas fireplaces unlike the gas furnaces that use electricity which can fail in winter, even in an up to date hydro province with more electricity than we can use, and the power will likely fail again. 50 below outside and freezing inside is not out of the question. Other safe heating is not a readily available option.

That said, hybrid EVs may be the way to go IMHO. Maybe.

Cool links Gary. Interesting to see how Canada is preparing for electric cars. California is a lost cause however, I don't mean that in a bad way, they are in serious trouble when a trillion dollar company wants to declare bankruptcy over 30 billion. The California hoax I guess.

Yep! Lala land has some major issues, SBLS. Electricity supply, water supply, quakes, smog, and a whole lot more. I wish them luck because they are going to need it for sure. One thing that California neglects to say is location, location, location. They’re not alone at that; but, tough Floridians have them beat in that declaration.

I just put up a vinyl shed and there were warnings of aluminum screws and vinyl panels listed under California concerns. It’s truly amazing that Silicon Valley exists under California environmental legislation. How about those Naval yards and missile proving grounds yada yada? The movie industry and custom car shops, etc, etc. ? The lineup is long.

The problem I find is that so much forward thinking is lost in the shuffle. Who appreciates unremovable repeated warnings smeared on their car interior or on top of their classy BBQ grill? I wonder why they don’t silk screen warnings on those methane producing Rose Bowl dancing horses? That would be kinda stupid, huh? Certainly no money, popularity, or common sense in adding that.
Now we have no brainer vaping warnings that follow in the footsteps of (my past guilty pleasure) tobacco supported by the same players? We also have MJ and tobacco inhalers shouting for clean air ? Hmm. I supported the end of killing whales. I didn’t eat whale meat. Okay, I’ll give a little slack. I’ve seen chemicals sprayed in the fields and I still eat cereal and bread. :P
Sponsors and offenders are supported with government handouts to improve or correct public demands. Well meaning individuals are sometimes influenced and misled by others on the payroll, social club, drummed up awards’ or book list. Not all, thankfully; but, I’ve grown up with close contact to know the sincere self thinkers and the professional others. Some of the latter can intentionally and methodically cloud matters and lead us to predetermined half athed fixes. We are handed a bundle of weak hurried environmental solutions wrapped up in shiny presentations. We don’t see, hear of, or discuss a cornucopia of building and operational materials with recycling concerns. We don’t address the much needed befores and afters. Where are the new alternatives that not only fix the problem for the long run but change the balance of control In a good meaningful and sensible way? The Grid is one of those problems. Can it be fixed? I sure hope so. It may, like the quick jump to electric, need a fresh start.

There’s a national proposal in this country for public transportation to be all electric. That’s an idea that has merits, but those existing electric overhead lines and supporting poles in Vancouver are an accident and restriction about to happen in a major quake or blackout. I hope they don’t add more of the same. My advice would be to come up with a better way to provide that or an equal solution. Why add another problem to fix one? I think the answers are obvious.

Napoleon’s approach was to give a taste of what the people wanted without presenting exactly what they wanted or needed for the long term. We are at that battle ground now.

Let’s grow more trees while checking the farming environmental destruction, soon to be scrutinized for human consumption, with the ingredients to make our meatless burgies while were at it.

Sorry, Veggies. YMMV. It’s not just the taste. Veggies are not the same as when I lived on a farm, My guilty pleasure is bison anything. :D
Make the electric car efficient, give it decent mileage on a full charge, and first and foremost make it environmental before, during, and after ownership, and then it will become a guilty pleasure. Until then, for me maybe not you, it’s just lovely to look at with a price tag and some irritation with a cool vibe especially in this part of the world.

Great post Gary. I lived in LA in 68 when there were still parks and some cool people. Went back in 79 was there an hour and my car was broken into, basket people shuffling around and yelling, everyone seemed larcenous, just destroyed a once great city. not going back ever, if California falls in the ocean it might just be a blessing and I do blame the government for it's decline.

Thanks, Rollie. I hear ya on the tinsel town change. I walked Golden Gate Park and Haight-Ashbury in ’67. The drug scene was everywhere and, without starting a conversation or judgment on that, I haveta say society has changed and then again it hasn’t. Drugs? Yeah! Protests? Yeah! Activists? Yeah! Politics? Yeah! Racism? Yeah! War? Yeah! The list goes on; but, back then the spaced out and straights were for the most part friendlies. Today, there’s a meanness and a greed never before seen in modern times. It runs from the bottom of the pecking order to the top. You’ll easily find that on the coast. The fast crowd and the slooooooooooooow crowd. The slow crowd has sped up a lot wanting everything now at any cost.

The coast doesn’t have a monopoly on craziness and attitudes though. Here where I live it’s rampant too in every neighbourhood. Even country towns are having big city problems, and they are poorly prepared for the things we in the cities can’t cope with.

When I grew up there were break-ins and outside the bar fights, but they were rare. They are common today.

Okay. So how does that get me to the topic in this thread? My low mileage car is aging. Today, I was daydreaming of whether my next Guilty Pleasure car might be a great old one like, perhaps, a classic. Then I woke up to reality that my yard might get broken into (as attempted last week). The car could be vandalized here or on a parking lot, stolen, parted out, or taken for a joy ride if it wasn’t violently car jacked . When I grew up those cars were off limit or respected.

Yep! It ain’t what it used to be. My guilty pleasure used to be parked with windows rolled down, unlocked doors, hanging dice from the rear view mirror, an 8 track stereo hanging under the dash and tapes in a case on the seat, 3 way Jensen’s under the rear window, custom removable headrests slipped over the seat backs, and non slashed raised white lettered Polyglass tires - all of which would be there untouched when I got back.
Mad Max may be just around the corner. Coming to a neighbourhood near you. My guilty pleasure is on hiatus.

Gary, there is an answer. You have to look at "operation paperclip". The whole drug thing started back then, we were played little Brother.
