Jethro Tull is a great rock and roll band! When I saw them Fanny was the opener and we had either front row or second row seats. I can't ever remember because the next night at the same venue we saw Argent, so that weekend was memorable because we had first row seats for one concert and second row seats for the other concert I just can't remember which was which :?

I read a long interview with Martin Barre in a guitar mag several years ago and I couldn't get over how humble and self effacing this guy is.He even downplayed his phenominal guitar work on the Aqualung album-Yngwie could certainly take a page or two from his book.I have never read any interviews or much at all really about Ian Anderson-is he secretive and reclusive or is it that there isn't much written about him?I would imagine that a Jethro Tull biography would provide some good reading.

I had been a folkie/acoustic fingerpicking player for a long time before hearing Benefit: it was one of the albums, if not the album, that convinced me I needed an electric guitar. Since so few people talk about it, I figured I would open this thread and get to post, "Oh, I thought this would be about the Jethro Tull album:" imagine my delight when it was! Excellent call.

Amen, his recorded solo on Aqualung is perfect!
A very melodic soloist, that you hardly ever hear mentioned.

Benefit was always my favorite JT album -- Some classics here for sure! (To Cry You a Song was my personal fav) Gonna have to go dust that one off myself and listen again :D

BTW, Martin Barre does some work with a guitarist named Willy Porter these days. Check him out if you get a chance

He's one of five primary early influences on my playing -- along with Joseph Walsh (James Gang), Leslie West (Mountain), Gary Richrath (REO Speedwagon) and the Cream-era Eric Clapton.
