CDs. I'm just about finished moving, and while I was uploading one CD rack of about 500 CDs, the rack tipped over!

Believe it or not, I had all my CDs in alphabetical order, so I figured that I would start from the bottom of the rack, while placing the CDs in large tote containers, so that I could loading them back in order form the top once I moved.

But the rack tipped over backwards once the weight from the CDs were gone...and I'm a engineer!

I had to pile them on a table out of the totes, so that I can finish uploading the rack of another 500 CDs

Tony, that certainly is a table full of blues cd's  . I couldn't help but smile when reading your post because I just got home from a entire day helping a Bro that is in the process of moving. We got a lot of the big furniture and appliances and several big boxes moved today but there is much more. I told my Bro I'll help again to move the rest of the stuff when ever he's ready.

I moved about 4 years ago and I did the same thing with my 800 - 900 or so CDs. They are in alphabetical order so I stacked them in boxes in reverse order. It worked quite well and I was able to re-load the rack after moving in a short time. Never had the misfortune of dumping the racks though.

Just think of how awesome a guitar player you could have been by now if you had only spent the last 10 years practicing instead of obsessing over pickups and roasted maple necks.

I took yesterday off, because it was the only day my grandson was off work, to move more of my belongings, including another three totes of CDs. This time we packed better.

I also had about 200 DVDs of live concerts that we moved.

I also found the original guitar case that came with the '66 Jazzmaster I brought back in the early '80s.

Image

The original case's handle was loose and Fender's Jack Schwartz arranged for me to get another case, so the old case was stuck in the back of storage area in my condo.

One more trip back to Columbus and the condo, and I'll be finished with the move.

 I feel your pain. I have all my movies, cd's and LP's cataloged in a spread sheet and organized alphabetically with location number codes on the shelf for quick look up. and it drives me bananas when my wife doesn't put them back! I cannot imagine them falling out on the floor  I would have set them all on fire

I feel your pain Tony,I recently arranged my 5-600 rock/folk/blues etc. CDs in alphabetical order and it was maddening and time consuming. After I had that done I arranged 176 Mozart CDs in chronological order in a 200 disc CD player.BTW I love your Jazzmaster what is that cool colour?

I've always said you find out who your friends really are, when you need help moving!

I really didn't have that much heavy stuff, my 'ex' took most of the furniture and my grandson helped. I gave him all the rest of the furniture. It was just all my music, and 30yrs of Guitar Player & Guitar World magazines, and odd stuff to move in boxes & totes.

I did get one rack of about 400 CDs finished, two more racks to go..

I'm not sure, it was that way when I brought it in a pawnshop in Ft Wayne IN. I was playing with Piney Brown http://blues.about.com/b/2009/02/18/blues-singer-piney-brown-rip.htm at that time, this was back in the early '80s, a two-nighter and that Sat, I decided to walk thru downtown.

I saw this pawnshop and went in, one of the clerks had the Jazzmaster out on a table cleaning it, it didn't even have strings. The only reason I was interested in it was because one of my favorite blues guitarists Magic Slim played a Jazzmaster. At that time I didn't know the Jazzmaster history.

I asked the cost of Jazzmaster, and he looked it up, and told me $325/case. I told him that I was playing here from Dayton, and only had $300, but needed at least $25 for a meals. So, he sold it to me for $275!

It didn't even have strings on it, but I always carried strings on a gig. I took back to the hotel room, strung it up, and played it that night. I needed a fret job on my '72 Strat, and the Jazzmaster became my 'main' guitar for about 5yrs.
