Great story there SA, as usual. :D
I am a dog person, never had a cat as of yet. I enjoy my friends´cats though.

My dogs passed away 2 years ago. It was tough to see them go after 14 years of
taking them everywhere. They would curl up around my guitar- chair as I studied baroque music obsessively. When they passed away, with one month´s difference, the Vet said - well you can pay the garbage truck to take the carcass away, or you can bury them. If you do, get ready ´cause the ground is hard around here.
I drank a whole bottle of vodka while digging the graves. The second time around I cried even harder as it was raining as I labored to dig Alderwoods´grave. Tough it was, mourning my beloved dogs, Rustle and Alder. What good times we had!
I am focusing on my career now and will avoid pets for a while.
My divorce went well and I found my kids in high spirits! Thanks everyone for your help!

Now, I haven´t engaged the disoriented poster, though I am aware of him and his issues.
My guess is Narcissist personality disorder with slight phsychosis, as some of the statements printed are parallel to the actual theme at hand and detached from reality as percieved by the rest of the Community.
It is hard to ignore a pestering fly but I think we can manage.
Have a great Sunday everyone!
Mike.

Why dogs are so much better than cats.

You'd never see a cat do this

They've got more sense.

Hey fellows? You see that PM button at the bottom of the box? Click on the one that's under each other's posts. It will allow you send private messages to each other. Use the PM feature to exchange phone numbers so you can text each other and keep all this drivel to yourselves and more importantly off this site.

Thank you.

Just think of how awesome a guitar player you could have been by now if you had only spent the last 10 years practicing instead of obsessing over pickups and roasted maple necks.

+10000
That just made me sick to the core reading it. ....SA next time you take on a animal take responsibility for it!, You taught it to depend on you for food, If you wish to discontinue doing so take it to a place to re home it in the future or better still don't have animals!!!! . My self and my wife do a lot of work here for our stray and homeless animal shelters here in Australia, we are avid animal lovers and breeders and i just cant say nothing to this sorry SA but i detest stories like this.

The cat was not starving; that year in our town there was a field mouse/rat infestation due to some long-time farming land being mowed down and developed as a housing addition. The only thing he wanted from us was attention, but he was destructive to our property, destructive to my skin (he didn't just gently jump on my back and sit there; the little dude clawed me more than once) and destructive to our sanity (keeping us awake all hours of the night). I protected him from our dog, and our neighbor's three Rottweilers. I did not abuse the cat, I just ignored him.
Two details I didn't put in the story--we fed him for less than two weeks, and he ended up "adopting" the family two doors down, who had three other cats and were better suited for taking care of him. He lived with them for about five years, and then he died...not of starvation, not of neglect, but due to heavy traffic on our road (which saddened both my wife and I). Those details weren't relevant to my parable about Internet trolls.
After my initial posts on this thread, I had ignored it...big mistake on my part, obviously.

...and it's interesting to me that after the couple of years I've been on this forum, if you had paid any attention to my posts you would have realized I'm an animal lover; we have several (well fed, well maintained) pets and since moving up here to Texoma, we have been adopted by some feral cats and a few rogue raccoons. I am the odd man out in this area, because I'm not a hunter (no criticism to those who are, I just choose not to) and the fact that I clean up after my animals. You're off-target if you think I would ever be cruel to an animal.

I'm sorry if I offended your sensibilities, but you didn't have all the details and your assessment of the situation was wrong. I didn't "starve" the cat, I just quit encouraging it to stay around.
About the only animal I will not take care and feed are certain types of bugs.

Understanding that the Cat was well fed and the situation properly i do feel better knowing that a cat's nature is 50% feral. It sounds like it found a home to feel part of down the road that you knew about so you did do the right thing. I now realise the post was not giving complete details of the situation just the parts you felt related to your new young friend here on the forum. As a active RSPCA inspector and fosterer for neglected animals myself i just could not say nothing to that post it is just to deeply ingrained in my emotional make up. Please understand that i carefully worded it to smash the point home but not to make a character asessment of someone across the other side of the world or to be pointlessly rude.
Thank you for clearing that up, As you can see it means a lot to me.

In truth, though I deem myself more of a dog person. I like both cats and dogs and have both.
Winston our cat houses himself with No1 Daughter. He's about three days older than she is. And was raised by my missus from day 1. Abandoned by his feral mother at birth.

I wonder how Shepard puppies take to cats. We had a lone cat Cocoa when my dad used to breed Basset's. As obnoxious and bloody minded as Basset's are, they loved that cat. Especially the pups. I put it down to the pack mind and can only think that Shepard's with their caring nature could be the same if introduced to felines as pups.
Our current dog Towser (Samoyed) has given up on making friends with the cat (after eight years of trying). The constant rejection by the cat of his friendly advances seems to have hurt him a bit.

Shame, he's lovely but utterly brainless.

My Shepherds have a very gentle nature, But the female is very territorial at home towards other animals. If they were introduced as pups it would have been fine. But i doubt it would work now.
