Girth is slang, or at least it is old slang over here in Britain, meaning stomach or more commonly someone’s larger than average stomach!

I believe they are right though that technically its the measurement around an object.

Does your teacher also talk about going up `the apples and pears` and having a `butchers hook` at something as well? If so they may be some kind of 1920`s cockney stereotype.

No, he's from Texas.

Your teacher is wrong....it does happen you know.

Ehh, doesn't matter. I passed the final with a 92% and moved on to a harder class.

I have a friend who tried to starve his girlfriend so that she'd leave and he could live happily with the cat. She did leave, but she took the cat with her.

Cheers - C

That just made me sick to the core reading it. ....SA next time you take on a animal take responsibility for it!, You taught it to depend on you for food, If you wish to discontinue doing so take it to a place to re home it in the future or better still don't have animals!!!! . My self and my wife do a lot of work here for our stray and homeless animal shelters here in Australia, we are avid animal lovers and breeders and i just cant say nothing to this sorry SA but i detest stories like this.

The cat was not starving; that year in our town there was a field mouse/rat infestation due to some long-time farming land being mowed down and developed as a housing addition. The only thing he wanted from us was attention, but he was destructive to our property, destructive to my skin (he didn't just gently jump on my back and sit there; the little dude clawed me more than once) and destructive to our sanity (keeping us awake all hours of the night). I protected him from our dog, and our neighbor's three Rottweilers. I did not abuse the cat, I just ignored him.
Two details I didn't put in the story--we fed him for less than two weeks, and he ended up "adopting" the family two doors down, who had three other cats and were better suited for taking care of him. He lived with them for about five years, and then he died...not of starvation, not of neglect, but due to heavy traffic on our road (which saddened both my wife and I). Those details weren't relevant to my parable about Internet trolls.
After my initial posts on this thread, I had ignored it...big mistake on my part, obviously.

...and it's interesting to me that after the couple of years I've been on this forum, if you had paid any attention to my posts you would have realized I'm an animal lover; we have several (well fed, well maintained) pets and since moving up here to Texoma, we have been adopted by some feral cats and a few rogue raccoons. I am the odd man out in this area, because I'm not a hunter (no criticism to those who are, I just choose not to) and the fact that I clean up after my animals. You're off-target if you think I would ever be cruel to an animal.

I'm sorry if I offended your sensibilities, but you didn't have all the details and your assessment of the situation was wrong. I didn't "starve" the cat, I just quit encouraging it to stay around.
About the only animal I will not take care and feed are certain types of bugs.
