Getting some new strings tomorrow! Not sure what to get though. I'm still trying to decide which I like best. I've had D'Addario strings for a long time. Switched it up a little bit and went with some Ernie Balls. Liked those a lot. Got the DR Neon strings for a school talent show and liked those a lot as well. The coating was nice. Tried regular DR's and oddly, I'm not that big a fan.
So tomorrow I'll be buying some new strings. A friend and my school principal both recommended Elixirs but I'm not sure. What are the Elixirs like? Or should I just go with the Super Slinky's?
Thanks! 8)

elixrs are the all round best they last about 3 months even if you play your guitar every day. they last super long and sound great for ages but you might need to replace the bottom string after a while.

they are the best. the light ones that is

so smooth

can't remember Elixir strings, so, if you do try let us know how they are.

elixir strings are quality strings, if you want strings that will last you a while then the elixirs are the way to go, but if u a gigging man like myself that shanges the strings before almost every show then the elixirs become quite expensive... i use a range of different strings but i prefere to use D'Addarios or ernie ball...

The phosphor bronze nanoweb Elixers make wonderful acoustic strings. They come out of the package about as bright and snappy as a new set of uncoated phosphor bronze but with the added benefit of staying bright and snappy right up until they break. However, in the case of an electric guitar where the tone of the string is much less important because the amp and the pedal board are colouring the sound I do not believe they are worth the additional price over uncoated strings. I find great deals on regular old fashioned uncoated nickel wound strings which I maintain still sound the best when playing clean. Better than nickel plated steel wound. Strings make little or no difference when playing wet or dirty or both. Fender 150's and Gibson Vintage Nickel are both excellent strings and can be found for not very much more than the cheaper brands.

Just think of how awesome a guitar player you could have been by now if you had only spent the last 10 years practicing instead of obsessing over pickups and roasted maple necks.

Went with the Elixirs.....definitely keepers. Smooth as butter, and a good tone.

I much prefer the Ernie Balls, but I exclusively use Elixirs - mostly as the Elixirs give me 95% of the tone for about 10 times longer. Particularly good when you're doing plenty of gigs, saves me an absolute fortune, as I'm one of those who used to fit fresh strings on each guitar before I ever set foot on stage or in a studio.

They have a really nice consistency to them, so once they're on and bedded in, you can tweak your amp and effects knowing that the basic tone isn't going to change much for a while.

Not to mention my fingers started having a slightly weird reaction to regular nickel strings a couple of years ago, the Elixirs stop that completely.

Thanks for the update! Glad that you found strings that you're happy with. :D

You made the right choice! I've been using Elixirs since 2008, and they're simply brilliant.

Don't even remember what made me get them, I just did and then... :?

But yeah, enjoy the strings that'll last you forever. ;)

Elixir, although not the most exhuberant strings when new, last longer, much longer.
Because of the number of guitars; it's a must for me.
