Started about 10 minutes ago and Johnny Knox has scored a touchdown for the Chicago Bears, with the kicked extra point the Bears lead the game against the Tampa Bay Buccaneer's, being played at Wembley Stadium in London. Anyone watching?

Apparently the Bears managed to win the game by a score of 24 to the Buccaneer's 18. Being a geezer I slept through the second half of the game. The first half was pretty good though.

Cant imagine American Football in London. What was the crowd like? Was there response like an American crowd, and did they understand the game. Are they truly fans or just spectators? I would have liked to see that one. 8)

Of course we understand the game. It's a load of scaredycat rugby players in body armour that keep stopping for a bit of a rest every fifteen seconds.

Mind you I've a few things to say about rugby players too (footballers without the talent to kick a ball)... so I best cut it short.
:D

Just joking

+1 Danny, just couldn't imagine American football and a British sports crowd, clearly extras doing of all things the wave (insert 80's chuckle). but a good game up to my nod. Niki, I'm with you as rugby is a brutal sport, only American advantage there is the sumo size of the lineman in football. There it is, Sumo rugby!

Now we need to start Sumo synchronised swimming or figure skating. Just in time to get it into the 2012 Olympics

Hi Danny: you are so right. There is no point at all in putting this thing on in London, we just don't get it and never will.

Actually, Wembley Stadium (capacity approx. 90,000 for field events) looked pretty full, far as I could see. There are a lot of American ex-pats who live here and I guess what you were seeing was many of them - because there would be very few Englanders amongst that crowd.

Apparently, they've been putting these American Football games on at Wembley annually for about 25 years or more. They hope the game will finally catch on here. I promise you, it won't. After all these decades I didn't even know it was happening till I saw SBLS's thread, that's how much interest it attracts.

When I saw this thread I tuned in for a bit of a look. Watched for half an hour - and that's it for me for the rest of my life. There's so much I like and admire about America, I'm not going to try hard with the bits I don't get. Huge guys in extremely tight pants... you can keep. :D

Cheers - C
