 I think Frank Zappa would have been one of the most interesting and informative people to have a chat with.

The first one that comes to mind is Ace Frehley, every guitarist "in the know" says that Ace has made a career out of only playing the pentatonic scale so I'd love to have him show me how that's done!

But after more thought I'd probably pick John Prine, just love to chat with him about all of his great lyrics and arrangements. So many songs using probably 4 chords and a capo.

David Gilmour, Pete Townshend, Jimmy Page, Roger Waters. I can't choose from this 4 musicians. :(

Dave Grohl or Krist Novoselic both dudes seem down to earth and funny so those would be the 2 I would meet. If I could go back in time Kurt Cobain for sure.

Jimmie Vaughan...and I would not ask him about his brother unless he brought him up. A good part of the conversation would be about the early days of the Fabulous Thunderbirds.

Kim Wilson...a good portion of the conversation would be about the T-Birds, but I also want to know about his solo/Blues Revue group and playing behind Muddy Waters, Albert Collins, Buddy Guy, etc. (back in the early Antone's days)...I would also like some harp gear tips.

Dusty Hill (of ZZ Top)...I love Billy Gibbons, but I am fascinated by Dusty Hill and his humility and patience. He has played behind numerous frontmen who were always flamboyant and overshadowing (including BFG and Rocky Hill, Dusty's late brother) without seeming to have any problem...especially considering he is a better vocalist than many of the frontmen in his various bands (with respect and credit to each of those frontmen).

Tab Benoit...just seems like a cool guy.

Billy Joe Shaver...I love his songwriting and vocals.

If we're talking dead people, I would say:
Muddy Waters...I love his music, and his life fascinates me.

Howlin' Wolf...ditto.

Waylon Jennings...a guitar lesson would be so cool--he had such a distinctive sound and style, plus the stories about Buddy Holly, Johnny Cash and Willie Nelson.

Hey SA....a friend of mine played with Waylon and the funniest story I heard about Buddy Holly was a time Waylon said they were onstage and Buddy kept mouthing something to him and he couldn't make out what he was saying,he kept turning around and saying something and Waylon still didn't understand, then Buddy came up and hollered in Waylon's ear,"Turn that damn bass down!"

I'd love to say it would be Dave Gilmour or Doyle Bramhall II or Warren Haynes but the truth is if I only had one hour I wouldn't want to waste it on talk of gear and technique or band dynamics and how it all went to pieces. I think I'd rather try to get a glimpse of a truly interesting and unique mind so I'd prolly go with someone like Les Claypool or Ted Nugent ... someone who is just a little "out there" and get their perspective on life and the biz.

There's a lot of A-list names bandied about in this thread, no doubt about that. I've been fortunate to enjoy some unscripted moments with some very accomplished guitarists in my time already. But to tell the truth I'd rather attend a pizza-and-beer party with my buddies from right here on this very forum. Those would include "T2Stratman", "Cedarblues", "Rebelsoul", "Stratele", "Bluesky636", "Shimmilou", "Chet Feathers", "Miami Mike", "tbazzone", "Martian", and a few others.

(Cedarblues gets to pick up the tab)

Rawk on, y'all!

Arjay, that's not fair. You gotta keep it to only an hour and you know perfectly well something like that would quickly turn into a run away train wreck ending four days later and three states over on a Greyhound to Chicago and no cel phone or wallet.

Dan was big inspiration for me, but I don't know, I just stopped to listen his songs (solo album and The Black Keys songs). I'm waiting for new album, maybe I will start to listen The Black Keys again :)
