I want to become a drummer. I was at a friend of mines bonfire tonight and sat down at his kit and I found it incredibly fun and easy. I want a kit of my own because I just feel the need to play. I used to take out all sorts of things when I was little and build a kit out of it and jam.

So my question is, how can I learn to play drums by myself and without disturbing the neighbors? My mom says a loud kit is not an option. Price range really doesn't matter as long as it's within reason. I saved up for my Epi, I can do it for a kit too. Thanks guys!

My brother has an electric set that is very quiet. He is to the point that he only uses acoustic when he gigs at his church. Not sure what brand, though ...

There are things that counteract the heads and you just put them on the bottom and backs of the drums. There's also egg cartons and nailing foam to your walls.

Your best bet would be the aformentioned electronic drums. They can be a hoot to play because you can program all kinds of off beats and overdubs to really enhance what you're playing.Plus they won't have the neighbours banging on the walls and ceiling.....unless it's for an encore lol.

Same with guitar. It isn't loud until you're at 11.

Good looking kit, a good throne and headphones and you're all set to slam.

I would not recommend electronic drums. They're really cool for the first little while but the novelty wears off once you begin to realize they don't sound or behave like real drums. The manufacturer's ad copy will beg to differ but there is no substitute for real drums. I would recommend you and your band mates (or jamming buddies) consider pooling some money together to rent a small office space in an industrial park and use it for a rehearsal and practice room. Industrial parks have no residences so there won't be any angry neighbors and evening parking space is usually plentiful because the businesses all close at night.

Just think of how awesome a guitar player you could have been by now if you had only spent the last 10 years practicing instead of obsessing over pickups and roasted maple necks.

Am soundproofing my studio now, and using bed matresses around the walls, these are the best and cheapest, on top of them another layer of carpet, have done half the room need to find more matresses. A drummer can play very soft and learn control or use brushes. Brushes are brilliant, also stuff the bass drum with cushions hope this helps ..........blaaaaaaaaaaaaaaa twaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaa from Vinny Pop

i live in an apartment . i bought a set of simmons drums for the sound reasons.
they do the job for me. . if you dont mind that they arent ever gonna sound like an acoustic set exactly. i play withthe windows wide open and nobody knows..

ther are some higher end sets that sound better but for my purposes these do the trick.
