You're paying for a year. Yes, old guitars are nice, but 1967-69 was so much better for Fender.

Myth......Vintage guitars are better than today's guitars.....
Fact........If you can find one that is unmolested...maybeee...!!!!
Truth....In most instances, time has had an adverse effect on the so called vintage to the point of rendering it to be unplayable.*
Fact...attempting to bring back a truly vintage..All original guitar will devalue it....
Why.....Because as soon as it has been taken apart, it loses value to the collector......
Fact.....Even a moderately played 50's series strat will leave a lot to be desired such as.....
Worn Frets...which screws up intonation.
Worn Pots.....which sound like grinding sand amplified to a thousand.
Worn tuner gears...Maddening when it comes to staying in tune.
Worn thru Neck Finish......high humidity will affect your neck thus the action.
Worn thru Body Finish..... See above

* So considering all the above....Would you really spend in the mid to high six figures for such an instrument... :?: :?
Not if it was your only instrument that you needed for gigs...
For One...It is too valuable and fragile to bounce around the country
For Two...You would drive yourself mad with anxiety over.....
If it was stolen...
If it was damaged....
If it was lost or misplaced....

Vintage instruments are nice but only as what they are in today's reality....
If your dream is to be a professional musician, you need tools that...
(1) Get the job done
(2) Are extremely reliable
(3) Would not be the end of the world ( for you ) if lost/stolen or destroyed
(4) Can achieve the required sounds without constant adjustment........

Just a few thoughts to consider......

The best Strat I ever heard was one that was owned by Brian "Loud" McLoed of Chilliwack and the Headpins. Many times I heard Brian and his band Husky do the whole of Dark Side of the Moon with Brian nailing every nuance of Gilmour's playing and tone.
Brian's Strat wasn't a '54 but a very well played '57 that his father had bought him as his first guitar. As good as his guitar was there were/are '57 that sound no better than Walmart specials.Back in the 50's quality control wasn't as stringent as it is today and there were a number of dogs that got past the factory gates too. That's why when asked what my dream guitar is I say a great built and sounding '54 Strat.
To my ears and hands the very best Strats made were the "L" series(62-65) when you got a good L series you got an incredibly wonderfull sounding guitar.Listen to One Rainy Wish,May This Be Love and The Wind Cries Mary by Jimi to hear a great L series Strat.I wish though ,I knew whatever became of Brian's '57,that guitar was quite frankly a rare gem as far as tone goes and not many except for Gilmour's,Rory's and Clapton's Blackie have captured my ear like that'57.

Of course..you are right except I was voicing from the point of a 13 year old's wish...
At 18 I had my 59 Les Paul Custom, but that was a wee bit ago..
It's long gone, I sold it in 93......

In today's real time the only potential vintage is going to be a nice Deluxe or standard from late 90's to mid 2000, hold on to it for a few decades and treat it like a musical instrument, not a baseball bat......

But there is a simple alternative....
A 56 NOS Time Machine from the Fender Custom Shop....
Which would not set you back 5 to 6 figures.... 8)

You don't need a Friggin 54 or 56....Anymore than I need a McLaren FI.

Save your money....By mowing the lawn as your Mom suggested and when you can someday look at a CS Reissue....

In the meantime..........Try To Get Some Help And A Life..........
