Again, just curious. I was never taught anything guitar related by anyone and never had a tuner, so I have to tune by ear. I'm not sure exactly what kind it is, but it gives a nice buzzsaw tone. I guess it's my own custom tuning.

At my age it's easier for me to use open tuning for my slide playing, which is a lot lately. But for normal playing I use standard tuning. 8) If your haveing trouble tuning your guitar there are lots of on line tuners out there.

I really began to appreciate modern tuning (being E-E in 4ths with a 3rd) When I realized the way it lends itself to all the inter-connectivity of chord structure, scale structure, and theory. It really was well thought out and mathematically designed to help produce incredible potential for the guitar. It's cool that it was no accident.

My tuning is EADGBE half a step higher. For a AC/DC song called its a long way to the top (if you wanna rock and roll)

-Standard/440 (duh!)

-Open G

-Open D

-Open Dm (great for jazzy blues)

-Open Gm (ditto)

-Drop the little "e" down to d and play slide...cool combo of standard/440 and open G.

-1 full step below standard (tried while recovering from surgery that hurt vocal cords several years ago...lots of fun for general goofing around or new inspiration). I use it a lot on acoustic guitars, too--"fattens" the sound.

-South Side China--my own creation that I will not share with anyone; it has Delta Blues and Far Eastern overtones, with sympathetic pitches/tunings on a couple of strings. Funkier than a week old roquefort cheese sandwich left in the trunk of your car for a week. Have mercy!

When I get my new set of tuners and my strings in the mail, I'll post some clean and dirty samples and let you guys judge what my tuning is.

Does anyone tune up at the 3rd fret (440 or whatever) for strumming open chords? I guess it would be considered a "sweetened" tuning for open or 1st position work.

i mainly stick to E tuning, if i am playing jimi hendrix i either stick with E tuning or move a half step to Eb tuning.
