I had to cut my hair (Freedom Flag) off today for my new job. Sucks because I've been growing it since I got out of the military in 2008. It was worth it for this job though.

I also donated my hair to the locks for love so a cancer patient can have a wig made from my hair. I honestly cried thinking about having it cut but I feel better about it now that it's done. So rest in peace hair, Until we meet again (retirement). 5-20-2008 to 9-20-2011

For some reason I've always been into having the security of long hair, It's a comfort to me.
I hope that someday we can honestly not be judged by how long our hair is. I figured that by now people would have put it behind them, unfortunately we live in a world where we are immediately placed on judgement based on our looks. Discrimination goes both ways, It's ok for Jesus to have long hair, but not me?

I am with ya brother, mine has been long, then short, now sorta long again based on the job.

It shouldn't be something we're judged on but that's the way people are. Surely because my hair is long I MUST be unemployed. No way could I have a degree plus associated IT certifications and work for a communications company. And surely I couldn't make enough money to support our family of 5, with a mortgage and all the other "stuff" in life?

I'm who I am, of course I'm a HUGE KISS fan so add that to the pile of things that people like to "look down" on me for.

My wife and kids love me, my family is awesome, so that's the most important thing right?

Kudos on your locks of love donation, a cool thing for you to do!

When I was a teenager in the mid to late '60s,having long hair could get you free haircut and butt kickin' from some of the good ol' boys and it sure did happen to some, but not to me luckily....it's a lot more accepted now....my musician son has hair almost to his waist. :)

When I got out of the army I let my hair grow for five long years before I finally got it cut again. Taking care of hair down to below my shoulder blades got to be a lot of work, so I didn't cry when I let it go, but the woman who cut my hair did. Today, even though I still gig quite a bit, I keep it pretty short.

Girlfriend made me cut my hair cause she wanted to see my face. It was only about 14 inches at the time.

I've got long hair. Luckily, I don't have to cut my hair. But who knows when I will need to cut my hair :(

Perfectly possible to be a tidy, employable person who's taken seriously with long hair. I know several such.

Still. In my early 20s I had my hair halfway down my back. Fun for a while. Nobody made me cut it 'cept me: damn, it was a relief when it was gone!

Cheers - C

I've never had long hair...the longest it ever got was very-early-Beatles length, when I was a little kid (8 years old).

It wouldn't look good if I had long hair anyway; it just grows straight outwards...if it were long, I would look like a dandelion gone to seed.

While some of you are complaining about not being taken seriously due to your long hair, I have had similar issues regarding my musicianship due to my short hair.

One coke fiend bassist was freaked out when I joined the band he anchored, because he though I was a bit too "straight" and was gonna narc him out. Another guy said, "Dude, I figured you couldn't play because you look like an accountant or something..."

After I got a little older, I enjoyed the element of surprise when I would play. People are shocked when they find out I can rock.

There's a guy in my area who's bald in the middle, but grew out the hair on the back and sides of his head so he could wrap it around and on top of his head.

Had hair down to my arse till I realized, it's not how you wear your hair it's what's inside your head.

Shaved it off after that revelation. Had it to just below my neck a couple of years ago cos the mood took me that way. Got sick of it though, back to shaving it off every couple of months now.

Anyway these days it's more Sideshow Bob than Conan the Barbarian. When it grows, it grows up. I blame the constant back combing, wax, peroxide and colours.
