Not only is this normal, this is the way Leo did it back in the day. All AVRI's have that detail recreated per the Vintage specs, Strats, Teles, Jaguars, JM, Bass' ...you get the picture.

One fine guitar enjoy playing it! I have had my '82 Vintage reissue from new and it is now and has always been a fantastic guitar! Fender does a great job on these and they always have...hence some of the prices of the early AVRI's!

well after 3 solid hours of playing it I am in love  I finally set the well used completely wore out highway one aside  the only minor complaint I have is the trem arm is junk. one heavy dive and it is bent  overall it was fantastic though! the action was perfect rite out of the case. the intonation is dead on with my turbo tuner. pickup height is perfect and not a single buzz across the entire board. even the strap was adjusted rite to my taste, all the way out! the neck is still a bit tacky but it has already started to smooth out. and once my fingers rub the fingerboard a little glossy, and i dress the fret ends a little and roll the edges a bit more it will be perfect :D

I have a question though. how the hell do you get the little trem arm spring to stay in its hole! in the past after I lost them I just left it out and played with it dangling. but its been so long since I had one stay where I leave it now i find it convenient. but once i take this bent trem arm out...... bye bye spring  any tips on keeping this rabbit in its hole?

also I apparently loaned my calipers to my father. so I will not be able to take neck measurements until Saturday  but I will do that. I will also measure my highway one and american standard. again this hot rod is huge

for the trem arm spring- grab one of those cheap magnets off the fridge door, trim enough to cover the hole in the tremolo, place magnet and grocery list back on fridge, use trimmed piece to cover the hole, and done.

I had that problem when I had my Strat. Just get a tac hammer and lightly tap it into place. Also, use a wick dipper to pull it to the block. It sounds crazy, but it works.
