Finally landed a good job today. I've been looking for one since May of 2008.

My guitarist skills shot through the roof during this time, however so did my debt.

I'm looking forward to not being broke.

That's great news.

I found out last week that my research contact had money cut from the buget, and that for the first time in 41yrs, I won't have a job after 30 Nov11

Man I really hate to hear that. I can honestly just tell you to try and keep your head up. The toughest part for me was to not be depressed, although, easier said than done when your in that situation. I wish you the best man, stay positive and something will eventually come.

mhbuckelew,

That's great news about the new job.

Thouston,

That's not good news for you.

This economy sure has its ups and downs.

Good news from one new forum friend, & not so good news from an older forum friend. That's like going up the down stair case. I guess the only thing to say is Good Luck with the new job to one, and keep the faith, something will come up to the other. :) :(

I lost my job in 2009 ... I have a great job now, but the "in between" was incredibly stressful. I am very happy for you. It is a big deal.

Good deal!! Congratulations!

Being a woodworker and doing mainly new home construction wasn't a good spot to be in when the economy crashed. But I recently scored a job myself. I'm doing hotel room engineering and maintenance. Now I have very little free time between the job and band.

Imagine this.. This is how it goes for me every week now.

Thursday morning get up at 4am, work til 2:30pm, 2-hour nap, set up and play The Mirage til 2am, wake up Friday morning at 4am, work another shift..

It's freaking insanity. There are a couple cases in November where I have Friday shows too, so all my sleep will be in 2 hour intervals from Thursday morning to late Friday night. Tuesdays and Wednesdays are our practice nights as well. So that makes it even more difficult.

Still nice to see that paycheck every Friday though and not have to deal with the unemployment office. So congrats once again. Getting that first paycheck is gonna be a real good feeling.

Congrats on your new job, after looking since '08 you need it for sure.
Thouston I'm sorry to hear that your job of 41 years is going.
That's the way of the ecomony these days,it seems like it's either feast or famine for a lot of people.I wish you both well in the future.
