If you had ever tried to set a neck, you would understand.

They have built them on occasion. The Fender Master Series guitars like the Esprit and Flame had set necks.

Didn't Fender make a Strat-shaped semi-hollowbody guitar back in the 70's that had a set neck?? Seems I recall something like that.

RETROVERBIAL, WHERE ARE YOU ON THIS ONE??

CS Set-neck Strat and Tele of the early to mid 90's were the first attempt I think, then there were the show master and the Tele junior or the tele sonic.. or at least thats what I think it was called :?

The Strat was basically a Strat Ultra with a set neck and highly flamed veneer :) not a lot different to the Ultra :)

Like others have said, different strokes for different folks.

I'm used to bolt-ons, but that doesn't mean I wouldn't buy a set neck...in fact, there's an axe with set neck construction that I am GAS-ing for right now...I'm waiting to see if the GAS is going to go away before I pull the trigger.

Lady Armadillo might not be too enthralled with a new guitar this soon after the most recent purchase (and she controls half the money and all the...ahem...er, um...lovin' ).

We used to have a Korean Fender Tele Custom in the store with a set neck. It had a spalted maple top, it was really nice.

I've seen those and agree - - they are very nice!

I played one of those Korean spalted top Teles in a store and was very impressed with fit and finish. Upper fret access was better than a Les Paul, and with two HB's it sounded like a LP, if I remember correctly the selecter switch was even placed like a LP.

I did'nt buy it because it sounded like a LP, I already have two LPs so it would have been redundant. But a great looking, sounding and playing guitar nontheless.

The comments about the setneck guitars of some 15+ years ago are correct. They also introduced the contoured heal with them, now found in the Deluxe Strat. The Merle Haggard Tele is a set neck guitar but you're gonna havta safe yo pennies for that one, bros.
