I had a humbucker added in the neck position of my G & L ASAT (Telecaster type). I included a coil tap installed on the tone pot. I really like the tone of the humbucker and the coil tap but when chossing the middle selection (neck / bridge) the tone is very, very thin with now low frequency at all, almost like playing out of a tin can? In reviewing various YT videos it seems that this is not the norm. I have a call into the guitar tech but any advance education would be appreciated....

Thanks,

Beaubs

Hi Beaubs,

Sounds like you Humbucker is out of phase with your Bridge pup. Its usually a simple case of swapping the hot and ground wires over.

Let us know what brand the humbucker is and we should be able to advise you which colour wires to swap.

Hope this helps.

Andy

I... er... that's almost word for word what I just typed! Thank goodness for the feature under "submit" where you can see what posts arrived since you started writing!

Anyway. You're in the best hands now, Beaubs. Andy will have this sorted for you in no time.

Cheers - C

If the humbucker is a 5 wire (old PAF) type. Then the casing is grounded. You'd find it easier to reverse the single coils wires.

Just in case.

Either way then.

How do you like that pickup?

So far I really like it, nice beefy ballsy tone and I really like the tone when engaging the coil tap. I have had limited time with it though and I need to find the groove so to speak..... I will be sending back with the technician this week to modify the wiring. Once I get it back and put it through the paces I will give you an update.

Thanks to all for your input......

Good good, I'm about to take the plunge on the PG set for my LP. The burstbuckers are too powerful for my liking. Though they do have a nice sound to em when dialled back a good bit.
Humbuckers are Bareknuckles specialities in many ways. It's where they began, Tim making replacements for his Les Paul

Got that PG set today Beaubs (bargain price). Only just walked in the door after a day cooking books, landing a new job and making amends with estranged family members. On top of a 200 mile round trip.

SO I'll get a cup of tea in me, get the soldering iron out and hopefully have a soundclip to share by morning.

Fell asleep before I'd even drunk the tea.

Got em in this morning. All I can say is "Oh my dear Lord".

I never knew humbuckers could sound so good. Thanks for pushing me over the edge Beaubs. I thought if this bloke 10,000 miles away can buy one, put up with import taxes, wait for delivery. The least I can do is buy a set floating around quite close at hand.
Thanks once again mate.

Anyone want to buy some Burstbucker III's.
