He's being inducted into Canada's Walk of Fame. Is this a big deal up there?
I'm a huge fan of Cummings, both his work with Guess Who and solo material.

"TORONTO, September 20, 2011 – Shaw Media and Canada’s Walk of Fame are proud to announce the return of Howie Mandel as Host of the 14th annual celebration of Canadian achievements. The internationally renowned comedian and 2009 inductee leads the 2011 Awards ceremony that introduces and honours this year’s roster of inductees from Toronto’s historic Elgin Theatre on Saturday, October 1st.

Airing Sunday, October 23rd – 8pm ET/PT on Global and Slice™, the annual star-studded gala event will feature top tier talents being honoured by their colleagues with inspirational performances and heartfelt words.

The two-hour 2011 Canada’s Walk of Fame Awards honours a selection of internationally recognized Canadian luminaries for their lifetime achievements in the fields of music, sport, film and television, as well as the literary, visual and performing arts, science and innovation.

The outstanding roster of 2011 inductees include physician and astronaut Dr. Roberta Bondar, musician Burton Cummings, athlete Daniel Nestor, actress Sandra Oh, comedian Russell Peters, and novelist/screenwriter Mordecai Richler. Plus, R&B sensation Drake will take home this year’s Allan Slaight Award."

Canada's walk of fame is like the Hollywood walk of fame. Being a Canadian I can say good for Burton, its nice to be honored, but I won't be watching.
Canadian Award shows always seem a little lacklustre to me.

For those of us that struggle to write songs and poetry. I for one recognise Golden talent when I see it. Burton Cummings demonstrates not only Musicianship but his writing skills and story telling talent. Mr. Cummings has in my opinion more than earned his place in Canada's Walk Of Fame. Good choice Canada. 8)

Being Canadian and having grown up with Cummings and The Guess Who I'm kinda surprized this is happening now rather than 20 or 30 years ago. I've seen Cummings on more than one occasion and he definitely has the ability to put on a good show when he wants to. I have a cousing living in Winterpeg who showed Burton Cummings a Trans Am about 20 years ago or so. Cummings came to my my cousin's house to have a look at it and is apparently just a regular kinda guy when off-stage.

Just think of how awesome a guitar player you could have been by now if you had only spent the last 10 years practicing instead of obsessing over pickups and roasted maple necks.

+1

I'd add only that it's about time!

Is it a big deal, well I didn't know it was going on, not that I am particularly pluged into such things. I'm surprised it took so long.

My office is right across from the walk of fame, lots of sports stars, comedians, actors, tv celebrities and musicians. Not to many people walking around taking pictures.

Does anyone happen to have a copy of his pre-Guess Who band's album (The Devrons) from Canada?
