If any Forum members have any interest at all in all things Hammond Organ, Blues/Rock, or just out and out incredible keyboard playing, can I ask them please to spare a few thoughts and prayers for Jon Lord?

As some may know, this mighty B3 playing legend, and true architect of the Purple sound, is battling cancer. :(

If you've got 10 minutes, here is a keyboard playing masterclass from Jon Lord and the also brilliant Don Airey in Jon's Deep Purple retirement show at the NEC. Jon enters the fray at 4.37 to huge applause and a wave of love from the crowd (I know, I was there). If you're just into guitar players, then enjoy Steve Morse's playing also

Many thanks.

Adey, many thanks for this post, that was awesome! I am a guitar player but I can really appreciate the talent at work there. My wife dabbles at keyboard but does'nt take it too seriously. I called her in to watch the video and she was blown away. Again, many thanks. :D

+1

Anybody in doubt should merely give DP's "Made In Japan" a critical listen. If "Highway Star" isn't sufficient proof then "Space Trucking" surely is.

Prayers and mojo for Mr. Lord.

Thanks for the link. I saw Jon with Deep Purple in 74 and they were great. Best wishes for him to get better and live a very long and happy life.

I've always loved the keyboard playing of Jon Lord.
He didn't get enough soloing time in Deep Purple.

However, Rat Bat Blue (from Who Do We Think We Are) has an extended bit of Lord soloing.

Cool Orville.

Rat Bat Blue is one of my favourite tracks from one of my favourite DP albums (although the band cite it as their worst). Jon's playing is dazzlingly fast on that particular track and the 2 handed chromatic organ & clavinet solo makes my head spin.

Nice to see some love for Lordy here..

"Wring That Neck" is another tasty Jon Lord treat.

That's one of my favorite DP albums too. Lots of great tracks on it.

Deep Purple what a great a rock band and Jon is such a major part of their sound! Who can forget "child in Time" the way the track slowly builds up with some fine playing by Mr Lord.

Best wishes to you Jon Lord.

Jon Lord is more of an influence on my guitar playing than Ritchie Blackmore.
His phrasing, his timing, his use of intervals.
they all translate onto the guitar--and in many songs I used to think his part was a guitar at times--he plays keyboards like a guitar player sometimes. And I mean that in a good way.

I saw this news some time ago, and did post it on some forums--but I don't think I did it here.
