The smell of my new Ricky is getting closer and if not for a C.D./Book buying binge it would be much closer, still I have over $400 bucks in so far.If I really buckle down and resist my other buying binges for die-cast car, motorcycle and truck models, and CDs the fund should grow much quicker.

Good for you getting off the cigs.... especially for your health. I remember when they were a buck and a quarter out of a vending machine. I bought two packs and stopped. It saved me thousands I'm sure. As far as raising money is concerned maybe some of your die casts have increased in value.

Good going guitarslinger. If I remember correctly, 16 weeks is the first marker for full independence of Madame Nicotine and you're right on top of it.

Stay strong,

Thanks for all the encouragement folks,I have over $400 in my piggy bank and that would've been a lot more if not for the CD/Book/Die Cast Car binge I went on-now the saving will start in earnest now that I have that out of my system. The cravings are still there though-I woke up this morning with my hand up to my mouth like I was taking a long drag on a cigarette, and I snuffed it out in the sheets-no kidding.

That's great, good luck maintaining your perseverance.
I feel the secret to breaking a bad habit is the way you mentally view it.
If you think; this is something I wish I could still do but know I shouldn't, there's a high probability you'll fall back some day.
If you think; that was a nasty habit and I can't believe how stupid I was to keep doing it and the people that still do it are really ignorant, you'll have a pretty good chance of success.

Guitslinger, Keep up the good work, I know how good it makes you feel to kick the habit. I quit a few years ago (more than I will mention here) and did a rough calculation this morning on how much I've saved by quitting. I figure a conservative estimate of my savings is just over $40,000 dollars based on an average price of $2.10 a pack and a pack a day. Not to mention I'm still around. :D

read this NY Post article and you will see that you are being extremely conservative with that price tag. http://www.nypost.com/p/news/local/thes ... i9Q2yAZBXM
Love that one guys' quote about the price being a good reason to quit, 'cause you know, cancer, emphsema, and heart disease aren't good enough.

Congrats on 11 weeks. Keep the Ricky in mind the next time you get an urge to spend some extra cash on your other hobbies. However, $400 dollars in 11 weeks is not bad at all for a guitar fund.

Good for you! I quit over 30yrs ago and that has probably paid for the 20+ guitars I now have in my collection, when all related expenses are considered. I purchased a used guitar and case last month, and have been trying to air out the cigarette smell ever since. I would have passed on this excellent buy if I would have known. Nasty habit we gave up!
