A friend of mine from Texas said he saw SRV in a small club somewhere in the early days and left after a short while because he was entirely too loud....good,but way too loud.

Sort of how my mom knew Dave Grohl before he was famous (She used to see him at Zaxx (now Jaxx) when her boyfriend was in a band that would open for Dave's band all the time. She drove a Bronco, so she hauled the gear and got in for free)

You would have had your butt stomped daily if you had lived in the Oak Cliff neighborhood in Dallas in the 1950's and 1960's. If you went there today (in this timeframe), you would probably be shot the second time you opened your mouth...it was tough then, but it's bad now...not a good neighborhood to be popping off your mouth.

darn you should have told him that was the hot vacation spot :?

speaking of Oak Cliff texas. I took a wrong turn out that way once....... a rottweiler ate my truck

Was the Dave band in question by any chance Scream?

Yes. Same with Franz Stahl. A good friend of my mom's and her 2 kids are good friends with him (she was his brother's ex husband) I've Franz's dad at my friend's house for a his birthday party and he was wondering what my hobbies were and I told him that I play guitar and he told me tons of stories and he said Scream's first show was a pool party.

Please Get Some Help.....A Reality Check..

SRV is gone 20 years+ now.
I still enjoy his contributions which were excellent. But I also enjoy many others, from various era's... Goanna, Midnight Oil, Savoy Brown, The Stones, Fairport Convention, Renaissance, Mostly Autumn, Rush, George Lynch, The Clash, 10 CC, The Motels, Tom Petty, Anne Sophie Mutter, Nadja Sonnenberg, David Russell, Alison Kraus....as well as many Indie bands....

Well more to list than we have space for....But my point is you need to broaden your horizons,
You are romanticizing SRV and the history is that his was not such a pleasant childhood.
I enjoy a lot of musicians, but I certainly would not want to trade places with them as far as birth place and time...

Enjoy your life for who you are and where you are at.....When I surfed, i always wanted to go surf Bells Beach, Cronulla Point and many other spots in Australia as well as South Africa.
Life has a habit of throwing curves and pointing you in a completely different direction.
If you are always looking at someone else's life thinking that they have/had it all then you will be forever cutting yourself short. Honestly look at the positive attributes in your life, emphasize them, look at the negative point, work on eliminating them and get on with your own life, not someone else's.
Life is not as long as we once thought when young....Keep that in mind so you don't throw time away until it is too late...

There are too many Rock-Rollers who trashed their best decades and are now recovering..

+1000

Well, when I was in highschool, I drank like a fish, had more sex than a teenager should, played a lot of pool, experimented with drugs a little, and a few months after graduation, i knocked up my girlfriend. Then I stopped drinking and partying and worked my $@! off so I could take care of my family. The end.
