I've tried that style of earplug before - can't get on with them personally, as the affect the frequencies in a weird way. I always ended up piling on enough treble to take people's heads off in the front row and damaging other people's hearing instead.

Have a look for more specialised musician's earplugs - you can find them at a half decent price, and they're reusable. Best part is they generally attenuate the whole range of frequencies much more equally, so you can still hear the tone of your guitar.

Must confess that I don't wear anything at all these days - I'm stupidly fussy regarding my tone, and I've not used any set of earplugs under about £100 which sound natural. And yes, after 20 years of loud gigs (more precisely drummers with loud cymbals!), I do have the hearing damage to prove it, so not advised!

Then again, I play at much lower levels generally than I used to, partly because of venues having tighter noise restrictions, and partly because everything just sounds so much better when you're not putting out enough sound pressure to oversaturate the room!

I even stopped mid-song during rehearsal last week and chastised the band for being too damn loud - wouldn't have dreamed of saying that when I was in my 20's!
