First time I remember seeing a gold-top without a pick-guard. It helps that it's easily removable for days when you don't want a pick-guard.

Agree with ButchA. I have a black LP w/black 3ply p.g., a Blackback (cream front) w/black p.g. and a dark honeyburst with tiger stripe at the neck turning to quilt at the bridge (beautiful markings). The solids look best with the p.g., the natural finish w/o.

If the pickguard were creme-colored (like the pickup covers), it would look better.

But I still think it looks really cool without the pickguard at all...much more rock & roll/rough & ready...

Either way, it's a beautiful axe...a Goldtop or a Black Beauty with P-90's has been on my GAS list for quite a while...and given my guitar fund's current condition, it will remain on the list for quite a while longer.

...and by the way, I knew you were south paw.

It looks great with it on and off.

I guess that if you feel that you'd be scratchin' the finish
with it off, I'd keep it on.

I say leave a pick guard on, but why not go with a clear one? I have clear PGs on two of my burst LPs.

Well, I gots one of those babies too, and I like the traditional look of the pickguard. Maybe you could play it with the pickguard on Sundays, Tuesdays, and Thursdays; and without the rest of the week.

Gold Top Les Pauls are ostentatious, normally I like less flashy guards on LP's but with a gold top for me with pickguard it's either go without, or go flashy, like Mary Ford's classic:

somehow on a gold top the plain one seems out of place to me.

Chet, I thought you had a clear one with your name engraved on it(from V-Picks). If so, how does that look?

I do but it's on my LP Standard and not cut right for the GT with P-90's.
