Now, that's a happy Ceri right there!

Seeing as Violins are all the rage on the Forum at the moment, any objections to me sharing a minor repair to the piezo pickup on this specimen?

Cheers!

Hahahahaha - I'm not, but thank you! You know how to press my button.

And to Andy: no better place for it than this thread. As many photos as you please. Off you go: enquiring minds are eagerly waiting.

Love the flame on that one piece violin back, by the way. Looking a lot better than the front of the instrument...

Cheers - C

Hi ozrv: no, in fact not. I learnt a bit as a kid and my dad is a good amateur classical player. He has a fine 1790s violin but wants a modern one as well and ultimately the aim is for me to build one for him.

So my interest in violins is simply as made objects: I can barely scrape a note out of one. Fascinatingly, that turned out to be true for about half the people in that workshop too. Including some of the professional makers: one pro even gave up playing when he started making violins for a living. He felt he could devote his passion to playing or making but not both.

It's a curious thing that many instrument makers in all fields are not players. Strange but true.

Weird, huh?

Cheers - C

Indeed. By all accounts (including his own), Leo himself couldn't play a note..

Fantastic piece on the violin. Not only do I envy your skills, but more importantly, I envy your patience in acquiring and developing those skills in the first place. And the adventurous spirit that actually gets you started on these projects.

Thanks for the violin making pictures, Ceri.

How many more workshops will it take to finish it up?

That would mess up air travel around the planet, now wouldn't it? Then you couldn't regain bragging rights to your volcanoes, now could you??
