Nah Ceri, I am just humbly stealing your F logo idea, so no points for originality for me.

Though I'd still love some of that elderflower jelly! Scrumptious! :)

Well now I've never tasted Vegemite. Shoudl I not like it I'd still have something to chuck at the seagulls.

St Andrews?

Few here will appreciate that niki is truly displaying his roots in this post!

Adey you know they've gone with luxury seating to try and attract more supporters.

They bought a recliner sofa.

I think Leo & buddies had the idea for the F logo several decades before me, so steal away. Far as I'm concerned, anyway: it's their website. :|

But Nutter, though your bread looks by far the tastiest and I notice you have now incorporated it into your avatar what I'm not seeing is it nicely sliced and spread with Marmite. I mean, it's your thread; you should know how this works.

Talking of which, just LOOK what I found in the supermarket today:

Image

Special Edition Marmite!! Marmite XO - Extra Old!

Don't mean to upset the antipodeans here, but ya gotta admit there is no Vegemite equivalent. If you want extra old Vegemite you have no choice but to leave it in the back of the cupboard for several years. But just look, Marmite have performed that service for us! Marmite - ready aged! As from the pharaoh's tomb: it's Tutankhamen’s Marmite!

Let's see what they have to say about it:

Image

How cool is that? Four specially selected yeasts, matured four times longer - what could be more luxurious? Why, all we need now is Single Malt Marmite and life will be complete. 8)

So how does it compare? Let's A/B them:

Image

Oh ma-a-a-a-a-a-an! This is Marmite, but not as we know it! Exclamation marks are not enough!!!

(Actually, it tastes pretty much the same, just a touch stronger. But we won't let on.)

Only one thing could make this any better. Some crumpets to spread it on. I was about to buy some in the supermarket but then I thought... let's make some.

Tomorrow...

Cheers - C

 I was expecting more of a ribbing on Vegimite than that!! :P

I was shocked to find Marmite is actually 25 odd years older than Vegimite which originated in 1923. So i suppose i have to stand corrected.... its certainly a taste you become accustomed to though as Marmite just tastes all wrong to me as Vegimite would to you....

Ps i actually have a friend that named his boat antipodean....

Nuttin' wrong with it. It just means "from the other side of the world". A perfectly fine and respectable thing.

And I don't know about ribbing: if folks can't detect the merry self-mockery in my screed then I've badly miscalculated. :D

Cheers - C

Wiki fact...

"The Antipodeans were a group of Australian modern artists who asserted the importance of figurative art, and protested against abstract expressionism. They staged a single exhibition in Melbourne during August 1959."

Erm, is that meant as a corrective to my definition of antipodean? I think we'll find those gentlemen took their name from the pre-existant word. This:

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Antipodes

In other words, you live in my antipodes - but then I live in yours. We're all someone's antipodean. It all just smacks of happy equality, doesn't it? :D

Cheers - C

Ceri,
Pardon my ignorence in things Marmite, but why would a jar of X.O. (extra old) Marmite have an expiration date? Wouldn't it just get older?

Cheers,

Such devotion to our savouries, but oh so British..

Gentlemen, I suggest you cast your nets to the East, and discover for yourselves the eyeball melting magnificence that is Patak's Lime Pickle.. :?

Especially marvellous on cheese dishes.

Or, if you're in a mellower mood: Co-Op's very own Caramelised Red Onion Chutney. Goes with everything. If in a pinch you don't have 'everything' to hand, just the chutney is almost as good..
