Let the (admittedly quite flat) feast begin!

(clearly I need more practise: My bread decided to prove sideways.)

Would your wonderful Bread be best consumed with Marmite, or Jam? And is Butter customary? What wine would you recommend? And may I have a slice please :?: :)

Oh. Right. Yeah.

@ Danny: Butter is mandatory. Drinks vary. ;-) And the above slice is for you!

Aaaaaah, that's better. 8)

I must say your bread looks truly delicious. And I see you've toasted it. The time-old dilemma: whether to take your Marmite on bread steaming fresh out the oven or toast it soldier style.

'Course, you could always do both...

Meanwhile. This is after all the Fender Forum, and we do like a build thread hereabouts, strung out over many episodes. So. This is where my bread had got to last time we saw it:

Image

Once that had risen it needed knocking back - and that doesn't mean telling it its licks are no good. Here it is being kneaded a second time:

Image

By genuine comparitive experiments over the years I have conclusively decided that bread is lighter and fluffier if you prove it twice. And I don't care what anyone else says. So back in the bowl it goes to rise a second time. Not much work, but a lot of time passing - we'll need some sort of entertainment to make it go faster. I find a pint or two of Cornish Knocker (write your own jokes) works well for this:

Image

And a little later, one has come up while the other has gone down:

Image

Now that gets knocked down and kneaded yet again, and then put into the tins to rise for the last time:

Image

Tune in later to see it risen, baked... and then the grand Marmiting.

I bet you can't stand the suspense. :|

Cheers - C

PS: I can't quite believe we're really making bread on an electric guitar forum? Oh well, as Zaphod Beeblebrox would say; "Anything for a weird life."

...And a bit later. Well, it's wholegrain flour so it's never going to blow up like a hot air balloon, but this is reasonably well risen:

Image

Now we all know I'm not remotely competitive, but if a guy was involved in a bizarre bake-off over the internet he might feel he just wanted some extra little touch; something to make his effort personal to the Forum:

Image

Image

There ya go: that somehow keeps the whole thing relevant to guitars, don't it?

Off to the oven:

Image

Image

35 minutes at 200C / 390F, et voila:

Image

Image

Image

Just add Marmite (not too thick - it's strong) and we're happy bunnies. Good things are worth waiting for.

...And not bad with Ceri's homemade quince jelly, too:

Image

Catch up, Denmark. 8)

Cheers - C

Ah, Mrs C grows those in tubs on the roof terrace of her office. The squirrels haven't found a way up there yet.

I'm seriously impressed to hear about the walnuts. We've got lots of fruit trees (full of squirrels) but no nut trees. I'm told walnuts are fabulous fresh?

G'night GTG - C

You guys crack me up with your Marmite. I got yelled at this summer by my friends in London for slicing a crumpet in half to toast it! It looks like an English muffin so I did the instinctive thing. My friend's son took it away from me! Silly Twits! Go join the Twit Olympics!

I'm going to research where to buy some crumpets here in South Florida. I know there's an British grocery store somewhere in Fort Lauderdale because they all come here in the winter (..and they are SO SO PINK!) wearing their Speedos on the beach regardless of whether they should or not.

Nick, regarding using the Marmite as a hair gel, that explains the strange odor!
Cheers, gentlemen, I'm off to slice some crumpets (insert evil laugh soundtrack here).

An attack of the Munchies requires instant gratification.

Only Ceri would make the bread for toasting. I'd just have a bowl of cornflakes if there were no white sliced available. Very impressive.

Another Marmite fan here - but a layer of just a few microns is more than sufficient..

For Jimi's sake, Ceri!!! That's not even "over the top" any more, mate. That's just plain showing off. And well done! To top that I shall have to attempt a different kind of bread soon. Just you wait, Henry Higgins! ;-)

Blimey, Ceri. Well thought-out!

Cheers

Never in all my time would I have thought I'd see Ceri making counterfeit Fender Bread!!!!!!
Interpol has been notified!!

And Niki, Marmite does indeed attract sharks, I live around 660 miles inland (with a mountain range in the way to boot,) and after the last time I ate Marmite I still had trouble with them, and it's bad enough when the neighbor's German Shepherd tried to hump my leg. (It REALLY attracts sharks!)

I have no way of knowing. I'll have to ask a squirrel. The only ones they leave are no good. Little nutters!

You need to get Alycia on the go for bread baking. Haven't bought a loaf in over a year.

Sometimes you can actually eat the stuff too. Though we have a nice sideline supplying the MOD's ballistic weapons dept'.

What?! Good grief - cutting a crumpet in half? I mean really! After all, you wouldn't put maple syrup on bacon, would you?

Oh, wait...

And anyhow, a crumpet looks nothing like a muffin. Entirely different animal - different DNA.

Well. Actually it's quite easy to make crumpets. 'Nother cookery demo, Nutter?

Crumpets: mmmmmmmmmm!

Oh, and why shouldn't they wear their Speedos on the beach? Is there a naked-only rule? You want to see yet more of their pink wintery bodies? How very French.

Cheers - C
