. . . for the NATIONAL ANTHEM OF THE SOUTH!!!

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=L6b0bKj6s2M

The original band, from 1977, just a few months before 'The Crash.' Sad to think that Gary Rossington is the only original member still with the band today.

Although the Allman Brothers pioneered the Southern Rock genre, this video is just a noteworthy reminder that there were other bands out there that were pretty good, too.

Enjoy, y'all!!

Nope. Medlocke (sp?) came to Skynyrd from another band, when the new version was formed. I can't recall the name of the band he was in prior to Skynyrd, so maybe someone else can help with that. Original guitarists were:

Gary Rossington (still active)
Allen Collins (paralyzed in an auto accident; now deceased)
Ed King (left the band in 1975, returned briefly for the 1987 Reunion Tour)
Steve Gaines (replaced Ed King; died in the plane crash in 1977)

Artimus Pyle was Skynyrd's drummer, up until '77. He was living in Israel; present whereabouts unknown.

I thought that he was in Skynyrd originally as a drummer in the late 60's or early 70's for a very short time. Than he left to form Blackfoot, and was with them for stuff like Train Train, etc.

I do know that he came back to LS at Rossington's invitation.

Saw them live just this July in Oshkosh at Rock USA and they were awesome.

Ricky Medlock was an early member as a drummer,he's pictured on the album "First and Last",he then played with Blackfoot for several years as lead singer and guitarist before rejoining Skynyrd as a guitarist.

Hmmmmm -- never knew that, Reb. That had to be WAY back before the "Pronounced" album came out. I stand corrected. Thanks for the info.

I can't see it clearly enough but I think the guy wearing the hat in the back is Ed King, who played bass until Ronnie told him he was a terrible bass player... this did predate the "Pronounced" album...and a bit of trivia here, the cover photo for "Pronounced" was taken in Jonesboro,Ga.,on main street...you can sdee the old railroad depot in the background,I lived in Jonesboro at the time....I'll try to find a pic.
