......Right up until the moment you plug that Affinity into a good tube amp.

Then you find out why Fender is Fender and Affinity isn't!

I plugged it into a Blackstar tube amp and it still sounds like a MIA american standard does that count?

I don't think so. The Affinity series doesn't even come close to touching a MIA Strat or a Squier Standard for that matter. Go and play a Squier Standard Strat and then compare it to a Affinity. I guarantee right away you'll notice the difference.
But thts the thing with Squiers, the Bullets and Affinitys are like the cheapest form so of course all the hardware is gonna suck, but you can mod that and spend about as much money as if u were to just buy a a higher end Squier, but if i was a newbie id say skip Squier and get a Modern Player series

You might be right.. But let me add something here. I actually bought 2- $99 Squier Bullet HH guitars last Christmas mainly for the bodies. Of course I modded the heck out of them to what I wanted them to be. But here's the reason I did it.

My back gets weak sometimes. Especially working construction by day. Those guitars are my back savers for live performances. When fully modded and reassembled, they weigh 4-lbs due to them being made of extremely lightweight Basswood (which in itself is a plus to me. I love Basswood bodied guitars).

Here's a video of me playing one of them on our Hawaii tour:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=O9yOnxTM0Vg

Squier body, Hamer neck, Dimarzio and Custom handwound pickup, Orange drop cap, CTS pots, Fender 3-way, vintage brass saddles, Grover tuners. Where else can I get that setup? Modding your own can be very useful sometimes. That Hamer neck is one of my very favorites by the way. It's shaped more like an Ibanez wizard.

Since the vid, I've dropped in my favorite Duncan Trembuckers. The Blues Saraceno models. Played it last night at the Mirage, and I'll be playing it again tomorrow night at a festival in Monterey California. I LOVE this thing!! Whatever it is.. A Squamer?
