I was quite pleased the first time I played a Vintage Vibe 50's Squier. The only thing lacking IMHO is the same neck profile used on the Road Worn 50's to yield a period correct Strat at a great price point. If slapping a Fender logo on the headstock will boost demand, go for it. PRS is doing well with their SE line including artist endorsements notwithstanding the fact that SHE appears to avoid using them onstage.

Is that a jab at the lovely/talented Orianthi, Doc? ;)

I've seen her play it in person, mainly at the PRS event at MusikMesse when she was performing with Paul himself, as well as a few other notable endorsees.

Not at all Chan-my-man. Simply an observation. I take nothing away from the artist and her many gifts. It's just that, with an SE-Signature Guitar under her belt, I'd like to see her with that slung over her shoulder as opposed to an MIA 10-Top. Seems to me that one ought to practice on what one preaches. In a similar vein, nothing irks me more than an magazine article in which some rock idol blows hot and hard about the virtues of a particular axe used and the accompanyings photo(s) :? :? shows that player with something else!

...............But we do digress....and hence return to the topic at hand.....posted on the wrong Forum....owing to the use of my 'dumb' phone too early after coming out of the propofol.(....the colonoscopy gone well with essentially negative findings:wink:}

Thus let us see what interest we foment herein.

I do believe that the Classic Vibe Strats are selling very well without the addition of a Fender logo on the headstock. I've tried a couple of them in the past and IMO, they're just as good if not better, than a MIM Fender Standard Strat.

+1: I'd like to see that 50's v-neck though. I suspect that standardization of components is standing in the way of that.

It surprised me to see Eric Johnson using a vintage SG during most
of a recent show he performed at.

Ooo, well I don't see why it's the wrong forum for that. Wrong website maybe, but...

Whatever, congrats on that result. And nice to hear that your thoughts were on, um, higher things while the procedure was taking place.

Cheers - C

+1 on Squier quality...

Great bang for the buck, possibly the best in the industry.

I know you're talking about the higher-end of the Squier line, but a year and a half ago I bought the Armadillo 'Tween (she was recently promoted from Armadillo Child due to seniority/time with the Armadillo Family Trust) one of those Squier Mini Strats. The only upgrades were new tuners and strap locks.

Now, when I play through my normal rig, it doesn't sound like my highly modded MIA '62RI Strat, but it sounds dang cool...snarly and rich, especially for a "top-loader" bridge. It sounds (and feels) much better than a $90 guitar. The tiny neck takes some adjusting to, but it's no smaller (width at nut) than the vintage 1964 Fender Mustang I used to own.

Plus, when I play it, I feel like a giant. I could drink tea out of an expresso cup and complete the illusion, but that would be silly.

Ah-ha. Quick off topic anecdote (it's what you pay me for, right?).

Couple of months ago I was building violins in a workshop, and one of the others there for a spell was a cellist from the Stuttgart Philharmonic Orchestra, who was building himself a cello, even though he already had a very good one. He comes every summer for that purpose but for the first time this year brought his 16 year old daughter, who was having her first try at making a violin. When her violin was finally strung up in the white he took it on his lap as if it was a tiny, tiny cello and proceeded to play passages from the Beethoven violin concerto on it. This guy has particularly enormous hands so the effect of a giant playing a doll's instrument was even more exaggerated. Gosh, I wish I'd taken a photo - it was highly humorous.

Anyway. He played very nicely. And if that guy could play a violin like it was a cello I think a half size Squier guitar should pose no problems whatsoever. So time for one of your Youtube demos if you please, Mr Armadillo... :)

Cheers - C

Hahaha - Lord, yes! For starters, building violins.

In a week I got about a quarter way through my first fiddle, which is reckoned average progress for a beginner. I could carry on by myself, but learning in that environment was such fabulous experience that I want to wait till I can attend the workshop's next residential course at Easter. That's why you haven't seen a violin building thread on this Forum yet.

For shucks, here's me cutting a pegbox, using the time-honored method of working the gouge with the chin...:

Anyhow, where were we? Classic Vibe Squiers: I think they're marvellous, and the best bang for the buck there is. But I wish they did one with a '50s neck carve - am I the only one who feels that way...?

Cheers - C

Ceri is actually the Yoda of instrument making, but he's in denial about it. 8)

Lovely pic Ceri, BTW.

Ceri doesn't have to change his guitar strings. They refuse to wear out due to the pleasure and privilege of being strummed by him.

Ceri doesn't have to tune his guitars. They all remember what happened to a certain Telecaster when it wouldn't stay in tune...

When Clapton and Bonnamassa played Royal Albert Hall, they each stopped mid-song and said, "Now I'm nervous, isn't that Ceri in the audience." After Ceri signalled his approval and requested they continue playing, they started the performance but refused to play any solos out of respect and embarrassment.
