only way I would quit playing was if my life depended on it, or if I lost my hands
my wife made the mistake of asking me if I would ever give up guitar for her...... the long pause after she asked me answered that one

The article was awesome

The only reason I'd ever quit playing is if the arthritis in my hands gets to the point I can't fret or hold a pick. Even then, I'd have to figure something else out. Lots of slide maybe.

great article .

I played guitar form 14 to 17 .. i wasnt good but had some basic . the guitar ended up in the closet and i ended up selling it . worst mistake of my life . guess after when i turned 18 .. its was nightclub time . and now im 30 i started back like 2 years ago .. but theres nothing i regret more in the world than quitting guitar when i was 17 . punk rock , metal was my favorite type of music .. in my 20's i spend most of time in nightclub .. dressing like a douchebag ( sorry i admit it ) listening to club , dance , techno . .. and i realize now that i have regret of my 20's .. it was fun i guess .. but when i look back at it .. i was superficial ( nightclub are very superficial ) .. although i had fun .. i always felt like i wasnt at my place and wasnt meant to be there .. now 2 years ago i started back guitar and thingh i didnt do all my 20's . im 30 and i think i regret my 20's .. it was fun but couldnt never find who i was . :(

now i found back .. and know when i want in my life .. ive learn to live from myself instead of what people think of me .. trying to get acceptance by peer .

so its not only an instrument your quitting .. sometimes its a part of yourself , your dream or who you are . what will define you .

i dont know if ill ever do a gig or have a band ( its my greatest dream) ,.. im practicing my guitar but im not very good .. although i play punk so i can cover easily . but i refuse to think im too old to quit that dream although its starting to be a bit late .

there so much fake thing in this world that when you find something real .. you know it .

i cant imagine my life without a guitar .

id like to read some story too . regrets , accomplishment , ,what music means to you ?

That's quite a bit of introspection, sky.

Hang onto your dreams, sir.

If something happened to my hands--I would probably try something like slide--or work out some other way of playing.

only reason i'd quit is if my spacticity in my hand/arm got to the point where i cant hold a pick or barely have any movements. which isn't gonna happen so i'm good

The unwritten #11:

Having a job which takes you away from home constantly, with no room for a guitar and amp, and almost no time to practice or play for more than 10 years. Happened to me. I'm still trying to recover my former skills and improve some on them.

I stopped fooling myself years ago. I'm *not* Eric Clapton and I'm *not* Jimmy Page, nor am I any other famous guitarist I might take a fancy to. I am probably never going to sound anything like them, no matter how hard I try, because I haven't got their touch, their ear, or their musical sensibilities. All I have is my own, for better or worse. I'm ME and that's IT!! So, I learn all I can, steal a lick or two from here and there, and try to put it all together in some kind of musically coherent format which others might find interesting to hear and in which I don't tend to embarrass myself. I never intended to make a living playing music, although I was in a couple of bands, neither of which went anywhere. I did it because I loved it. I still do and it's a source of enjoyment for me, now that I am retired. I'll play as long as I remain physically able to do so.

Well said!!! That is exactly how I feel too. Back in the day (not bragging, ok?) I could literally go toe to toe with Eric Clapton on his records, and match him note for note. But then, like you were getting at, I had to stop and ask myself, "Why?"

I was in a few garage bands and bar bands too, and they never really went anywhere, but they were fun. I was a US Coast Guardsman by day, and a lead guitarist by night... 8)

Nowadays, I still play my Fender Strat as much as I can. But I am more diverse musically. If you listened to me, you'd hear a practice "set list" sort of like this:

Turn up the reverb
Overdrive pedal: Suzie Q - CCR
Clean tone: Honey Don't - Carl Perkins

Overdrive pedal turned up
Roll On Down The Highway - BTO
Before You Accuse Me - Eric Clapton

Clean tone, finger picking/hybrid picking
I Still Can't Say Goodbye - Chet Atkins
What Might Have Been - Little Texas

Distortion channel
Party - Boston
You Shook Me All Night Long - AC/DC
Tush - ZZ Top

It's good to know that there's at least one other Little Texas fan besides myself here on the forum!
