Have you ever tried some pure nickel guitar strings?

I have been told that they have a better sounding than the normal ones, especially with the lower strings.

I've used Fender # 3150L pure nickel wound (original bullets), .009-.042 for years. They helped to reduce finger noise and had a warm, full tone. I haven't seen them in store shelves in years unfortunitely. Now I use Ernie Ball Hybrid Slinky #2222 (orange pkg.) custom gauge nickel wound strings .009-.046, I like the light strings for bending notes and heavier gauge strings on Low E and A for tone.

I've seen quite a few posts about pure nickel strings and am going to look for some to try. I'm assuming that "nickel wound" and "pure nickel" are not the same beast. I have a note to check GHS Boomers. I'm not sure if they're pure nickel or not, I haven't had time to check yet.

Yeah, I use Fender 150M Pure Nickels (.011-.049). The local shop owner carried them and recommended them, so I figured "why not?" They seem to hold their tone a bit longer than other strings I've tried and do have a nice sound and feel. They also cost a bit more than your traditional nickel-wound steels (Usually $1-2 more per pack), but IMHO it's worth it.

I've been using D'Addario Pure Nickel Wound Extra-Super Light Gauge EXL 130 strings( 8-38 ) for over 30 years and find them to hold their new string brightness and tone for much longer than any other strings I've tried.

for the past 10 or so years I have been using only pure nickel strings. they are warmer with a softer attack and feel a tad better to me. each brand is a bit different also but weather they are better than plated steel, that depends solely on the sound you are going for. for blues and jazz pure nickel is the best in my opinion. and for rock and metal the brighter plated strings have more bite to them. just try some out  the D'Addario pure nickel or DR pure blues are reasonably priced and good quality. personally I prefer Pyramid and SOB but that's mainly the feel of them and they cost twice as much. but if I cant find those (which is the case with snake oil lately) I just get the DR pure blues.

AFAIK, they are the same thing. Note that only the wound strings have nickel, the plain strings are just steel.

Or is it that the winding on the wound strings can be either nickel plated steel, or pure nickel, both wound on steel?

But it would still be only the winding that uses nickel - nickel wound or "pure" nickel.

GHS Nickel Rockers do it for me, Fender Bullets are excellent on Strats and Teles, uhhmmmmmm Ive read something about them having lower output but in turn you get a more rich bluesy tone

I love DR pure blues, nickel strings on my strat. It has the noiseless pickups on it. And I was ready to swap my pickups till I put on the DR's. Now it sounds like a strat should.
