What kind of finish do the Fender Road Worn 50's and 60's Strats have? Relic?

Hi beowolverine93,

That would be a ............wait for it,.........keep waiting.........."Road Worn" finish, simulating years of use on the road. Nitro-lacquer on the body, Polyurethane for neck.

Fender also calls it "distressed", and "aged, well-played look and feel".

Road Worn is the series and it says the neck and body finishes under the specs but there is a name for the aging they do to it. Relic or Closet Relic or something like that.

You can call it whatever you want, Fender calls it "Road Worn". Terms like "Relic" and "Closet" are used for Custom Shop guitars, which the Road Worn is not. Generally this type of artificially aged treatment is called a "distressed finish". But as far as an official name, it's "Road Worn".

The finish on them is pretty good for large scale production. They look pretty authentic to my inexperienced eye. And they're good quality instruments with great pickups too.

Without wishing to stir up the relic haters, I think they're worth the money. But perhaps we can expect those prices to fall a little, as there is now also the more expensive Road Worn Classic Player range to tempt us..
