he has autism i believe. i seem to remember reading it in one of his posts. one of my few 'real life' friends has autism and he cant stay on a topic for more than 10 seconds. so i'm used to it. thats why i haven't been 'attacking' him for de-railing threads and lying much.

Maybe he can't straighten up because it's out of his capability. Mentally, I mean. No offense, don't want to be rude, but I just watch these vids and see some handicap which is not in the guitar playing.

When I was in elementary school, I volunteered to join a group that helped the kids with cognitive or physical disabilities. We helped them at lunch, (occasionally) with their schoolwork and eventually we became friends. This went on through middle school, and (unofficially) through high school for me.
I am still in contact with a guy named Tony who is (mentally) about twelve years old, although he's (physically) forty three or forty four. He also suffered from seizures of some sort. Tony has a savant-like ability to rebuild Chevrolet engines; he could tear apart and reassemble a 350cid Chevy motor blindfolded. He claimed he didn't understand Fords or Chryslers, but I think he just didn't want to work on those.

Interesting thing about all those kids--they were brutally honest, sometimes to the point where they could hurt somebody's feelings...but they were sensitive to other people's feelings (even crying and apologizing), once they realized that what they had said was hurtful.

A myth that drives me crazy is the idea of a person with a child-like mentality "doesn't know any better" in relation to honesty, violence or such. It is often said, "This person has the mental capabilities of a six-year-old child, therefore should not be held accountable..."

Really? The Armadillo Child (when six-years-old) knew not to lie, steal or murder. She'll be ten in a few days, and she's still well aware that those things are wrong. The line between fantasy and reality may be blurred at certain ages (to be honest, I know fifty year olds that still have a problem discerning between the two), but after repeated reminders that those practices aren't going to be tolerated, enough is enough.

Yes, he has some cognitive disabilities, but that does not excuse him from being honest or being polite and not interrupting/derailing/sucking the life out of a good thread with tales of Musos, Kate, Brian/Buddy/Eddie and guitar duels.

To everyone who positively added to this thread, thank you for all the words of agreement and for naming the folks that inspire and help you personally. I hope this comes off in the right manner—my point is that we have a pretty cool group of guys and girls here that help build up our skills and appreciation of all things guitar. I think Ceri’s graphic demonstration of who he likes and who he doesn’t sums it up for most of us.

I used to be a part of a small core of ZZ Top fanatics that were regular posters on the old official zztop.com website that was run by Bill Narum (the artist who designed several of their album covers and stage backdrops). We had a fine time, and openly welcomed new members, no matter what their level of fanaticism regarding “the Boyzz.” We swapped music (ZZ Top as well as other bands), supported one another on personal matters (one member’s son died in Iraq, another’s husband had early onset Alzheimer’s, a couple of divorces, I personally had some medical crises, etc.), and generally had a great time. We were called the 7’s (even though there were nine of us…go figure).

Then a singular jackass/troll came along and brought total negativity to that Forum. He started fights, made outrageous claims, dissed everyone involved and ended up destroying our cohesive little group. He was banned several times, but came back under a new username each time and started his crap all over again. Finally, Bill Narum figured out how to ban him through his IP address and we started to regroup…but then the band changed management. They closed down their old website and started a new one that didn’t have a Forum. I occasionally get an email from those guys, but we aren’t really in contact anymore…the final nail was the death of one of the 7’s. It just fizzled out after that.

I miss them, and I don’t want the same thing to happen here because of a selfish little twerp who obviously “knows better” but chooses not to control himself.

Please don't use medical terms in a light-hearted way. Autism/Asperger is something very specific with totally different symptoms and behaviour. You may want to look it up in the ICD 10.

I know he started to use this term as an excuse for his behaviour, but this is again totally offensive on several levels. First he doesn't have it, second he uses it as an excuse, third he shows no respect for people who really have this diagnosis. It's just another lie.

@1FenderGuy: Look, you're really disturbing. Please find a way to fit in. If you don't want to fit in, please leave the show.

Cheers

David

I used to frequent the Allman Brothers site years ago,we had lots of great members and actually met many of each other at ABB concerts,we had pre show parties and a hard core bunch of us were pretty good friends across several states....then the band fired Dickey Betts, those of us who had followed the band since '69 similar to the Deadheads, had a hard time dealing with it,but it was the three remaining original member's decision and we respected them for having the "authority" to split ways...trouble is it seemed the fanbase turned on each other and things went sour in short order....I never go back to whatever is left of that site.
Some things can cause a forum to be disrupted to the point of shutting down, and the bottom line is everybody suffers, and what used to be face to face responsibility of dealing with a person in a rightful manner has been tainted to keyboard insults and irresponsible behavior....it's a shame that it's a sign of the times.

Tochai, I've always recognized you.

Although, you look a lot like Floyd the Bass Player from Electric Mayhem.

I miss the forum when it was still young. not that its not still a great place, but back in '07 through '08 it was wonderful. I lurk a lot cuz I'm working most of the time but I can see how the forum has gone downhill. still a great place to hang and get wonderful advice though. I'll remain a member for a long.time.

I read through a lot of threads, but only comment on 10% at the most. At 62, I've been playing since 1963, performing live since 1964. I've seen a lot through the years and learned a lot, but when it comes to guitars and amps I'm still learning. I consider this Forum both enlightening and entertaining, just have to sort through the "other" stuff.

I realise i have pissed off people here from time to time with my heart on sleeve comments or sticking up a bit to strongly for younger members of this forum. It was never meant to be acidic, I am brand new to forums so i suppose the tiny level level of exposure i have had in reading other forums but not participated had me thinking everyone on forums just shoots from the hip. Its just not the case round here. I must say i have a profound respect for your communal spirit, self policing and amicable way of going about confrontation. I plan to stick around, You all may or may not converse with me but i just must add that you are all a well balanced lot and its just a very interesting place to be for any thing guitar, amp and a lesson on how to converse amicably on a forum.

Peace and Rock out...,

May all your pineapples be ripe ones!!

Regards,
Another pain in the $@! Aussie

Hi ozrv: as an Australian the Italians and Russians certainly think you are a pain in the behind and the Americans think you are an ENORMOUS pain! (Be tactless to say more about that here on this American website...) The Irish on the other hand just think you are cute and cuddly. On Sunday we shall find out how the South Africans feel about you.

You KNOW what I'm talking about...

Cheers - C
