Its okay for you to say you don't like nirvana or kurt cobain. You don't have to make such a big deal about it.

Exactly. It also takes a whole ton away from your credibility when you claim something that is indeed subjective, is not.

Also, welcome to the fender forums!

I gotta say, my world didn't change one bit. But when Sgt. Pepper came out, the world really did change.

I think people mistake songwriting talent and technical ability sometimes. There's a division between how great a song is in terms of the way it's written, and how great it is in terms of the guitar work. IMO, Cobain wasn't that great on the guitar. I don't listen to a lot of Nirvana, so call me on it if I'm wrong, but the guitar in what I have heard doesn't seem remotely difficult to me. As for song writing, I give Kobain all the credit he deserves. He can write a song better than I can. I've never sold millions of records.

True the peppers were big in the 80's, they wer actually good at that point especially Mothers Milk.

AAHH stop the madness!!! starts singing "imagine" (by lennon who don't know)

okay now that's out of my system... (just kidding)

i really think that the whole nirvana "sucks" vs. "they were the greatest band ever" needs to be put at rest!

they aren't even around anymore and what's happened already happened. we're all aloud to have our own opinions (and hopefully for small things like this - keep them to ourselves). i personally like nirvana a lot but i don't think they are the greatest band ever - i don't think there is any band or artist worthy of that title. music is art- it's subjective.

okay hopfully that rant is over now...

When it comes to Pure Street Punk Attitude, you can't beat Suicidal. Great Metal Riffs, too. I can't remember the Gutar Player's name, but he should get some recognition for Best Metal Riffs.

Rocky George was the guitarist. I just saw Suicidal Tendencies live a few months ago. They still kick $@!!

It's like this:

Kurt Cobain was a sick man but remarkable songwriter with a clear vision for how those songs should be performed and recorded. His band broke through the existing clutter of the radio and help change the direction of pop music. It's not an exaggeration to say that Nevermind defined its time just as Sgt. Pepper defined its time (neither of them caused the social change, BTW, they just reflected it).

To deny the power of records like "Smells Like Teen Spirit", "Lithium," and "Heart-Shaped Box" is to admit that you don't really understand rock music at all.

And no, Nirvana was not the greatest band of all time, but starting a thread like this is the musical equivalent of shouting, "get offa my lawn!"

Nirvana wrote good catchy songs and chord progs. Kurt wasn't out to prove he was the best guitar player.
