You must be a fan of music and not a musician. Kurt Cobain was an amatuer. He was sloppy. His solo's, for lack of a better word, were on the skill level of a late first year/early second year guitar student. His tone, the same. The only good thing to come from Nirvana is the Foo Fighters.

Technically, amatuer means you do it but you don't get paid for it. Professional means you get paid to do it. So, technically, he was not an amatuer. And he thought guitar solos were stupid.

Pearl Jam never would have made it if it hadn't been for Nirvana, and I seriously doubt the Chili Peppers would have either.

So to say the ONLY thing good to come from Cobain was the Foo Fighters? You're missing out on a lot.

I'm no fan of any of these guys, I don't dislike them either, but for continuity's sake I feel I must point out that the Chili Peppers were already a hit in the '80s, thanks to bands like Suicidal Tendencies.

well, i think he was much more of a musician than many of today's popular artists... i don't think he is by any means a great player, just innovative for the time

I'm a huge music fan and have been a guitarist for over 15 years. I listen to jazz , blues, classic rock, psychedelic, punk, metal, rockabilly and old country. Nirvana was amazing. Sure Kurt was no Eddie Van Halen, but he by no means sucked. I bet the worst song he ever wrote is miles beyond anything you have ever written. Let's see you sell millions of records... :P

Thanks for clearing that up. The RHCP were out before the Seatle grunge music scene. RHCP aren't even grunge.

Am I allowed to consider this spam? You have opened like, five threads all asking "You want this or that?" on this forum and now you throw in 500+ smilies in a post that has nothing whatsoever to do with the thread topic? Just... please be more mature.

Back on topic I don't really fancy Cobain as a guitarist, but as a singer and a songwriter he is definitely a part of music history.

But Rolling Stone rating him before people like Mark Knopfler and Buddy Guy on the 100 Greatest Guitarists is just rubbish :?

I agree, he most def. is not better than guys lik buddy buy, but he was the voice of a generation!! I remember when i heard teen spirit for the first time, i was blown away. i changed the way i saw music. Was he a great guitarist, no, but he was revolutionary. And i sure dont agree that pearl jam wouldn't of mad it with our nirvane. It was pearl Jam and Nirvana that allowed bands like mother love bone, screaming trees, and sound garden to really break through. As for the Chilli Peppers all i have to say is remeber Higher Ground, and Tube socks
