Hey I was told that I play a lot of "jag" notes. I have no idea what that means. (has nothing to do with a Jaguar or type of guitar) Thanks

I've been playing for close to half a century now and have never heard of a "jag note". Whoever told you this apparently made it up for his own edification.

Just a guess? You should ask the person(s) that said it.

Then, tell us WTF they are talking about.

Same here. Never heard of it and I've been playing about 45 years.

It must be someone's personal slang. It took my drummer about three years to understand what I wanted on drum parts because I am totally ignorant to the proper terms for rolls, fills, etc. on drums, and I used the terms I always mentally assigned to certain sounds, etc.

He understood my requests for production values fairly easily (he is the producer on our recordings as well), but I generally use a song or sound as a reference point on those discussions (this eventually also worked for drums, too).

Was it an insult or compliment?

Did he use the word "off" after the word at any time? :P

Ever since I found the internet,I have discovered that I speak a true Southern dialect, one that is fading from our country that was formerly the C.S.A.,and has been handed down to me by my ancestors...but as of late it has been intermingled with yankee-isms that I know not the source or meaning of,so the language barrier is becoming more of a stumbling block to having meaningful discussions with members of other parts of the country outside the boundaries of the former Confederate States of America.
I struggle with this daily.

"Yankee-isms"? Please elaborate.

"Yankee-isms"? Please elaborate.

Yankee-isms are sayings common to the northern United States.

To the rest of the world (the UK and Europe especially) all Americans are "Yankees".

Within the US, though, people from the south consider a "Yankee" to be anyone from above the Mason-Dixon Line (below this line was "Dixieland", Dixon=Dixie) to be a Yankee. In Texas, anyone from above the Red River is a Yankee. The New England/Northeast area of the US is the strongest example of "Yankee" culture.

Interestingly enough, there are major cultural differences--accents, foods, customs, etc.--as soon as you cross that line from either direction. It's more pronounced on the Eastern Seaboard than it is in the midwest or southwestern states, but the differences are still there.

Another thing that is interesting is the stereotype that all Southerners are prejudiced. I have known more prejudiced Yankees than I have prejudiced Southerners...the truth be told, there is probably more racial strife in New York and Boston than there is in Atlanta or Dallas.

A very misguided group of people who say they are south of the Mason-Dixon line is Marylanders...geographically speaking,maybe....Southerners...no....everyone who has pointed that out to me from Maryland has had the mannerisms and accents of yankees.

While I do not wish to rekindle the "War of Northern Aggression" I agree with Rebel that the colloquialisms of certain areas of the US are sometimes a foreign language whether spoken or written. Just visit the low country of South Carolina and the Geechees. It's easier to decipher what a Cajun is saying.

As for Jake's original question perhaps the person mean't "jagged" notes. Though it is not a musical term he could be describing what he heard. If its any consolation I play alot of those myself...

I would like ot know what the the person using that word meant.

Regarding local words: I grew up calling it a "bubbler". I think I was 11 years old before I knew that in people in other parts of the country called it a "water fountain".
