I see he is still reelin' them in.

Super kid, do you really believe that a guitar that has just been released, would already be in a pawn shop? (possible, but unlikely) And further, consider the source, no track record to lead anyone to believe a word of it. How does that hook feel in your mouth?

It is probably an open-ended number; it's not announced as "limited edition" or anything. They'll make them as long as they're selling.

It might be a permanent/long term addition to the Fender catalog (like the Eric Clapton Stratocaster) if it sells well. Considering that it's not an uncommon mod to put humbuckers in a Jag, it might stick around for a while, but...

I don't think anything with Cobain's name on it is going to be embraced to the point to where his instruments are a permanent fixture on the landscape. He's too polarizing (just look at any Kurt Cobain thread--it becomes a "genius vs. hack" argument within two pages).

If you like the axe, I would get one now--it may not be here in a couple of years.

Not too sure it will be collectable. In another ten years no one will even care. He was no Buddy Holly, Eric Clapton etc. Remember to be collectable an item needs to be rare, different and sought after. Just because it has someone's name on it who was popular and still is to some degree, won't make it a good collectors item. It would be collectable to a Cobain fan, but to someone like me, not really. Jaguar guitars are fun, but not as popular as Strats and Teles.

But to a certain group Cobain was as ground-breaking and revolutionary as Buddy Holly...and since he's in the 27 Club, some will romanticize his life and death.

...and obviously he has SOME staying power...we're still talking about him twenty years later.

There are plenty of players who buy the Clapton Strat or the Jimmie Vaughan Strat or the XYZ guitar who do not desire to play like their axe's namesake; they just like the features offered with that particular instrument.
I can see a Jaguar enthusiast (who is not a Cobain enthusiast) buying one of these guitars in order to use it as a foundation for modding (buy the reasonably priced KC Jag, chane the pickups and pickguard, and voila--new unique guitar!)

I don't think it will be a permanent addition to the line more because it's a Jaguar...nothing against those guitars (they're cool), but they've never (even during the surf and grunge crazes--their most popular periods) sold like the Strats or Teles did.

As far as Cobain's continued popularity: I was of the generation that embraced him, but I personally never did (I was too busy listening to Muddy, Buddy, Jimmie and Kim)...when I got on this Forum, I was surprised at the young people (most of whom weren't even born when he died) embracing his music...and that might continue. Who knows?
