mine was like 2 weeks after i got my p-bass. i didn't have a stand so i just dropped it on my rocking chair. it chipped part of the guitar and the paint started to chip. now i have have tape on the chipping paint with white paper on it to hide the chip. also my bass has really soft wood for the body.

Maybe someone here at Fender would have the demographics, but I remember reading that the average guitar player gives it up somewhere around 26. Wife, kids, mortgage, car payments, insurance...well, you know. Funny thing is there's a big jump around 50 that lasts for 10 or 15 years. That midlife thing.

Sounds about right. I gave it up at about 24 and picked it back up at 45.

Tried to catch an acoustic that was slipping off the strap with my elbow.

Crack.

(The guitar's okay--the crack hasn't grown, and it hasn't affected the sound.)

When I was 16 I made 300 dollars one summer and found a 1965 Mustang at a flea market. Once I got it home, I didn't like the faded finish, so decided to sand it down and repaint it. Stupid. It never sounded the same. the other stupid thing I did was trust my apartment manager to not steal my equipment when I went on vacation. That is when I lost my 65 Jazzmaster. I bought it at a second hand shop in the eighties for 250 dollars. Wish I had it today, along with the Mustang.......But now I'm crazy for Jaguar!

I was 13 years old when I gave up a 50's Les Paul out of pride.
In the early eighties I had a friend who was from an extremely wealthy family. None of his family members were interested in music including him so he let me use his grand dad's Les Paul which his ole grand pappy bought in the 50's. I was learning and played it a lot. My birthday came around and he gave it to me. About a year later we got in a fight over a girl named Christine. Instead of swallowing my pride and apologizing I told him to shove it. He walked over grabbed the guitar in it's case called me a Jerk and left my house. Friendship ended, goodbye guitar and Christine actually liked a guy named Eric. "Hey Mike, sorry about Christine can I have the guitar back?" Damn.

Dumbest thing I ever did to a guitar was to blame it for not playing right when I was piss drunk. I tossed that nice Takamine 12 string across the room, breaking it's neck. Even now, 30 years later, I still feel stupid over it. The nice thing was I found a shop called the Guitar Hospital on the Black Horse Pike in So. Jersey. They actually came to your house in an old Caddilac ambulance and picked up your damaged axe on a gurney and took it away for emergency care. Very cool. They did a great job repairing that Takamine and I used it for several more years. It actually played better then new. Man am I glad I gave up drinkin.
i got my first guitar there an old hollow body electric no name on it at all dumbest thing i did was sell it wish that place was still a round thanks for bringing that memory back
