Thanx for the link, that was very entertaining. And I've been a fan of Billy Connolly for a long time so that added to it as well. I'll be watching more of this Route 66 show too, Billy does a great job of "observing while entertaining" and he's hilarious.

Not sure I'd ever want that many either even if I could. But I know there are a few I would add to my guitar family if I could.

And yeah, he never asked if the guy played, found that interesting.

He's one of the few comics who can give me sore ribs from laughing

There's so many people out there that have huge collections of their favorite things and hardly anyone knows about them...for good reasons. thanks for posting that!

is that a   say no more Reb, never been a collector of anything myself, had a load of guitar mags accumulated, but dumped at the last round of house decorating, went for the minimal look " all your craps going " she said :)

Thanks for posting RIU! It is an insane collection. Made me remember traveling Route 66 twice. Once in 68 when some Bros and I were itching to get to L.A. so we only stopped for refueling so missed the collection then. And again in 79 when the road crews were changing Route 66 over to Route 40. I was going to see some Bros recording at a studio in L.A. My traveling companion was a very high-priced call girl so we only stopped to...eat and then carried on so missed the collection again. lol:)

I think the guy's collection was top secret, cat's out the bag now though, a man's got to ...eat thats the rule's, hope you had enough for starter's or was it straight to the main course

Some ass-bag stole it. My eyes are starting to tear up.

:x I hope the ass-bag has a life of incontinence, seems apt to me

That guy had a few nice Strats that I saw. A '79 anniversary and a couple of limited number CS guitars. As well as a Ric' frying pan.

Good on him I say. It's not like he's off out troubling anyone.

A lot of people who collect things don't just concentrate on just one thing either. Besides having a huge GAS condition I also collect anything to do with the Beatles or Hendrix including music T shirts, hats and especially books. On top of that I have a collection of over 200 mugs, beerstiens and china cups.I also collect classical music and have over 500 classcal music CDs and albums too on top of my hundreds of contemporary recordings.Just this year I started on 1/32 and 1 /43 diecast model cars and motor cycles and already have over 25 of these. Well over 100 T shirts,a few dozen baseball caps, and a slew of Hawaiian shirts.

When I get my music room finished I'll have to install dozens or maybe hundreds of feet of shelving to hold all my collectables as I already have about 8 bookcases filled with my reading materials and still have almost that much still packed away. The missus has the odd outburst of frustration with my compulsive reading and collecting but contents herself in the fact that these are about my worst habits and that I rarely drink and when I do I just get giggly and cut it off there. What I really need is a garage/practice space with a loft to hold all my treasures-that hopefully will come before the house bursts at the seams.

Can he play them? Makes no difference. Some of us are interested in playing, and some others enjoy collecting (or both). What do you really do with a collection of anything? Mainly just enjoy collecting whatever and looking at your collection. I have over 20 guitars (started last year) and will only try to play if no one is listening outside my wife. I still have more fun with them then I would perhaps a stamp collection, baseball cards, a gun collection, beer cans, or about anything else I can think of, or can afford. I buy guitars from private parties. I really don't see how guitar shops are making it in this economy, with so many of us having to liquidate our toys. I look at it this way; my guitars are probably worth as much money now as the equal amount of money I have put into savings in the last year (maybe more), plus I enjoy having them every day. There, I just rationalized my GAS! Thanks for listening.

Yeah you're right, it makes no difference if he plays or not, but it would just be interesting to know. Like did he start collecting those because he liked the way he played, or because the first one he bought was like that and he had it in his first band, or he just collects them because he likes the way they look. To me the whole collection of anything (guitars, my KISS stuff, beer cans, magazines) is just as interesting as WHY you collect it.

As much as I would like to have a large guitar collection, I don't see that happening as it is too expensive for me. I am content with the seven I have at the moment...at the moment.
I am a collector of Star Wars toys etc. I have so much stuff with the Star Wars logo emblazoned on it. I probably have 250 figures still in packages. Various vehicles, tons of magazines, books, shirts, posters and displays. I have a crapload of loose figures too!
I have too many versions of the movies, on VHS, DVD and now blu ray.
Yes I am George Lucas's b***h.

 , her knowledge of courses was enlightening at the very least which made the main course a high calorie experience. Well worth the price and her next customer was the manager of a nightclub I worked at then. He married her and I can say from experience he is one lucky Bro. I wonder sometimes if she is still the beauty she was then, lol:).

Well, guitslinger, we've had a few differences in the past, but now that I know you're a collector I'll try to be more understanding. I've been a collector all my life, starting with the usual stamps and coins as a youngster, then moving into vinyl LPs (still have over 500), then as I got a little older, into antique graniteware, antique fruit jars (1880 or older, about 500), then into compact discs in the early 80s, now numbering over 3,200.

But guitars and amps, that's the kicker. The Music Room alone holds 21 amps and 22 guitars, with 33 more guitars in the holding room and another 14 amps here and there through the house and basement. Those numbers may be off as I have been hit by the GAS bug a bit more of late, thanks largely to my enabling guitar playing partner. I am thinking of starting to downsize a bit as I approach old age  but I'll start with the fruit jars and other antiques and hang onto the guitars until I depart this earth.

Though I have a nice collection of Fender gear, I am into lots of different amps and lots of different guitars. No, you can't play more than one at a time (at least I can't), but they all sound different, even one Fender from another, so I have a very good time going from one guitar to another and one amp to another. I never get tired of switching guitars and taking different guitars to gigs. I love 'em all and I know there are more to come.

+1

My modest collection of vintage Fender amps continues to grow whenever I find a particularly tasty piece at the right price. For me, it's a crusade.

Looks like they're all pretty well looked after too, watched a few of those American Pickers progs, some of those hoarders on that programme defy belief.

that's a ridiculous collection...but cool. I have 10 guitars at the moment and I think that is way too many! I just can't decide which ones to sell.
