I have always had a thing for Gibson Gold Tops with P-90's. I bought an R6 (ReIssue 56 Gold Top) a few years ago, but found that the baseball bat neck was to much for me and I sold it.
This year Gibson came out with LP Studio '50s and '60s Tribute Guitars with P-90's. One of them was of course the Gold Top. I pulled the trigger on one of the "60's Tributes. It arrived yesterday and it is a fabulous guitar!!!!

Out of the gig bag she plays pretty decent. The neck is quite comfortable on this one. I am going to change out the bridge for a TonePros locking T-O-M and replace the tailpiece with an aluminum one and TonePros locking studs. I'll do MY setup on it from there.

Thank You.

It is very difficult to get decent pics in my house because I keep it very dark in here. All lighting is from lamps.

Thanks.

Excellent I'll have to see how he is liking his.

They have 5 color options for RH players: Worn Cherry Burst, Worn Honey Burst, Worn Gold Top, Worn Ebony, and Worn White.

For LH Players they have 3: Worn Honey Burst, Worn Gold Top, Worn Ebony

Ah Chet, what a monster guitar. I was tempted by those myself. But with zero experience of Gibson's P90's I opted for something different.
However today I got to play a very good all mahogany, P90'd guitar and very impressed I was. I'm starting to rate the P90 a very under used pickup. I can't think of a single style it couldn't work well in.

Congratulations mate. Soundclips a must.

Sweet Chet! I just bought the Honey Burst a couple of weeks ago. Mine plays great. I just lowered the action a little. I like the neck a lot. The P-90's sound great through my Egnater and it makes my little SF Champ sing. Great bang for the buck. I tried to find a Goldtop but couldn't. I think you lucked out because of it being a lefty.
Congrats!

Thanks! I have always thought that Gibson's P-90's were fabulous pups. This guitar is a chambered Mahogany body with a Maple top and a Mahogany neck with Rosewood fretboard. It has very good tone, but putting the TonePros parts on it will make it more solid. I should get added sustain!!!
I would recommend to anyone looking for a nice sub 1K P-90 guitar to go check these out.

Thanks!! I was hoping you would chime in here. I have been looking at these since they first came out, but didn't have the money available when I found one LH. Until now!!
Mine sounded great through my DRRI. I need to try it on my Blackstar next.

Mr.Feathers, Congrats on the new beauty. I'm not up on all the technical aspects of a Gibson guitar, so all I can comment on is it's looks. and the so called WOW Factor. From My point of view there's plenty of that. Very nice. 8)

I really wasn't looking to buy another guitar because I just bought a Martin a little over a month ago. LOL I tried it through a DRRI at Sam Ash. It was all over at that point. No two seem to look alike finish wise. The first one I picked up had a horrible setup. They said they had another one and it was way better. I guess the first one was just hanging on the wall with different climate changes. They don't sell Egnaters so it was a deaf purchase as far as my personal rig goes, and I'll tell you what, the P-90's really push the DRRI really well and sound great. It's a nice combination. Sounds great with my Egnater too!

Chet, congrats. Those are great guitars and you got to like P90s. Everyone should have at least one P90 guitar in the collection as they have a truely unique ripping tone.

Just so happens I played one today at GC while my son was looking for another cymbal boom stand and it does have a great tone, nice neck, not too big, not too small, nice balance and a great feel...was suprised how nice the finish is, but it does seem like it will age quickly. Got me gasing for one...Enjoy the guitar.

Nice looking guitar Chet. I have a JA90 Thinline Tele with SD P90's that I love. I want to ask your opinion on the Gibson necks. I'm looking to buy an LP soon and am leaning towards a 50's neck. I haven't tried the new asymetrical neck yet and am going to wait till I do before deciding. What is it about the 50's neck you didn't like. Does it wear on you after playing a long time?
